| Description | ![]() For many homeowners, contemporary rugs are a piece of artwork, adding class and distinction to any room in a house. But what are the different types of rugs currently in fashion? The types may be confusing, especially when many consumers are not sure what kind of rug to buy. Here is a look at some of the most popular types of contemporary rugs currently available. Cubic Shapes: These contemporary rugs often come in intricate geometric shapes. Often they feature twisted forms, waves, and other odd patterns. Cubic contemporary rugs often favour free form and sharp contrast with geometrical patterns, although they can be far more simple. In addition, these rugs can be made with different textures, such as smooth or rough as well as fluffy or soft. Transitional Rugs: As the name implies, transitional rugs are transitional. By this we mean that they bring balance in a room. This is achieved through their repeating patterns and textures. Common transitional rugs include shag, low pile and Hessian, all of which bring balance to a room. Embroidered Rugs: These are woven rugs that come in a range of sizes and colors. They are generally used for interior decoration, as they can easily breathe new life into an empty space. Smaller ones can be used to create an accent area, while larger ones create a focal point. Today, they can be bought as pre-knotted or hand-knotted rugs. Hand-knotted rugs have an antique look, while the pre-knotted ones tend to blend in well with contemporary interior design and styles. Stencils: Stencils make great accents on walls and they can also be used to compliment an existing rug. However, stenciling can also be done using a rug. A rug with a large pattern can be stamped on it using a stencil pad. The advantage of using a rug is that it will not lose its texture or color. If you want to create a stencil style, then choose one that has small-sized and bold colored stripes, as this will help give the impression of a stencil. Natural Grass Rugs: These rugs are made from wool fibers. The wool used in natural grass rugs is derived from the natural soil. This rug made from wool has the power to retain its shape. Unlike synthetic rugs, natural grass rugs do not absorb moisture. Also, they do not retain dirt, thus they are able to easily clean them. Low Maintenance Rugs: Outdoor rugs made from natural grasses are very low maintenance. Since they do not retain dirt and water, there is no need to vacuum them regularly. In addition, because the wool has high-traffic patterns, it tends to shrink after being washed but when it is laid flat it will retain its shape. Interior Decorating: Today there are many different interior decorating styles. However, if you want to achieve a very specific look in your house, you can stick to a few timeless classic styles like country, shabby chic and casual styles. Remember that contemporary and traditional styles complement each other and can even be used interchangeably. Go for rugs that have intricate designs, as they will stand out and grab the attention of anyone passing by your home. Contemporary Rugs: The contemporary rugs are also known as transitional rugs. These rugs have designs that are modern and fresh but have certain characteristics of both traditional and modern styles. They blend contemporary designs with traditional ones and can create a very stylish interior. These rugs are usually manufactured using organic fibers. Their colours generally range from light to dark but depending on what the manufacturer uses, they can appear anywhere from grey to black. So which one should you choose? Both types of designs and textures can give your rooms a new look, however when it comes to choosing a new rug, it is important to consider the durability and functionality. If you have pets or children in the house then it might be a good idea to stick to one theme such as shabby chic or traditional. If you live alone then you can get away with choosing anything in your own choice of colours and styles. Hand-knotted Rugs: Although they are called transitional style rugs, you may not want to choose this option. A hand-knotted rug is usually created by machine rather than by hand, which means they are more likely to last for longer. They are also much cheaper than handmade rugs although some handmade styles can be more expensive. So, if you want something that will last for years and still look great then avoid the transition type and opt for a rug based on natural materials. This way you can enjoy the durability, style and variety of rugs available and you can even have your rug custom made to suit your specific requirements. |
