Good news and congratulations!

We had some issues with the TRP's before on the long WU. No issue for Linux, but they had lost their "CHARM" on Windows.

Currently all of the NOELIA_TRP WU's I have received (four so far) have failed within a few seconds also. All give the same error:

6) XP and Linux OS are much faster than Win7.

On the SDOERR_BARNA, I run around 16.5k seconds per WU on Win7
Device clock : 1084MHz
Memory clock : 3500MHz

On another 780Ti, SDOERR_BARNA, they are around 17.5k seconds per WU on Win7
Device clock : 1045MHz
Memory clock : 3500MHz

On another 780Ti, SDOERR_BARNA, they are around 23k seconds per WU on Win7
Device clock : 928MHz
Memory clock : 3500MHz

On another 780Ti, SDOERR_BARNA, they are around 17k seconds per WU on Linux
Device clock : 928MHz
Memory clock : 3500MHz

The device clock is only the base default for the card. Unknown actual boost values for all, but it gives a little indication.

The following items will make GPUGrid WU's process faster....

1) Faster GPU Clock
2) Faster GPU Memory Clock
3) Not running other WU's on integrated GPU on CPU
4) Only running a single WU per logical CPU Core (so if you run two GPU's for GPUGrid, you can run an additional two WU's in your i7-3770k with next to no degradation)
5) Faster CPU speeds

I believe 1 and 3 provide the biggest improvements. The other are all slight improvements. Of course running WU's that take 5 - 20 hours, well pushing too hard and getting errors can really slow a machine down. :)

I find with both the blower fan exhausting GPU and the ACX dual fans, they both benefit from fan(s) on the side of the case blowing on them. The Silverstone Fortress FT02 case looks to be an interesting case with good overall airflow direction, but no side fan.

I have a mid tower (Cooler Master HAF 922) with a GTX680 blower and dual fan GTX460. Without the side fan on it, had to down clock the 680 to keep temps down and avoid excessive error rates. Added the side fan, no down clocking and only had 1 error in the last 3 months.

From my own experience, I would not run GPU's 24/7 on air without a side fan blowing on these GPU's.

Glad to hear it is replicated. The only issue I am facing now is the downclock of GPU speed.

* Only happening to GPU1 and not GPU2 (identical cards/bios).
* Downclocks to 548Mhz.
* Shutdown/Restart of Boinc will not reset the speed.
* Must shutdown and restart the computer to get speed resent and may go 0-3 days before downclocking again.
* Is not a thermal issue since the card is staying 72°C (actually ticks to 73 on occasion).
* Happens with both 335.23 and 337.50 drivers.
* Was not happening on the 331.82 drivers.
* Does not happen to the GTX680/GTX460 XP machines with the 331 or 335 drivers.
* I have not tried Jacob Klein's force Max Boost speed yet because I liked the temperature control of Precision. The 780Ti will sit max boost at 68C on the low utilization WU's and climbs to the upper 70's on high utilization WU's (without temp control set in Precision). So max boost would be a little rough with my current cooling setup.
So, I set for Max Boost, and it works wonderfully, even when the drivers would otherwise stupidly downclock due to supposed low utilization. Forcing Max Boost works wonders.

So I will be going back to 331.82 today since I will not be able to watch the systems close. I think the new app 8.41 is now scheduling WU's correctly so I should be ok.

Waited until I had a couple different WU's to compare the SWAN_SYNC impact. Wanted a low and high utilization WU to review. Image scales

Did the testing the same as http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=3634&nowrap=true#35730 To fill the additional threads, SETI and Einstein units were running on the CPU. No reboots between tests in this test were needed. Only had to stop BONIC, change the environment variable, and restart.

These were running under the 8.41 Application Cuda60.

Below is the delta average percentage of SWAN_SYNC Yes - No. So depending on the WU and the number of threads, it will vary. GPU1 was running one of the more intense Nathan_RPS1 while GPU2 was on a lower utilization GERARD_A2ART4E.

Here are my Precision Settings for the machine with the 780Ti cards.

Power Target = 105%
Temp Target = 72°
Power and Temp are NOT linked
Prioritize Temp Target (click on arrow to point down) ***EDIT***
GPU Clock Offset = +38 (not of much good now that winter is over)
MEM Clock Offset = 0
Fan Curve = Auto
Under Fan Curve
Fan Speed Update 5000 msec
Temperature hysteresis (in °C) = 2
Force Fan Speed on each Period is not checked
35% at 30°C
40% at 50°C
45% at 60°C
60% at 65°C
100% at 70°C

Since I have the EVGA ACX cooling cards which just blow the hot air inside the case, I am using the Cooler Master Half932 case which can circulate air in and out pretty quick. Built a duct to take outside 'cool' air directly to the cpu, and then 4x120mm on the side of case blowing on the gpu's, and 3x120mm exhausting at top. Those fans are all linked to cpu temp so the fan profiles in Asus AI Suite3 are set to run them roughly where I want. Could also just run them straight from 12V, 7V, or 5V, but I like the AI Suite for cpu/case fan control.

I have a smaller half case for another machine, and both the video card and cpu could not run full clock until a side fan was installed when crunching. Side fans or open cases are critical for the non exhausting gpu's. It is really surprising what 100 cfm of outside air on a side panel blowing onto a gpu can do.

With some of the new WU's actually taking advantage of all those cores/SMUs/Shader units of the 780Ti, the air cooling is getting a wee bit strained especially with spring and warmer temps in the house. This is why I am using the Precision and prioritize temperature over power. It is cutting voltage and throttling GPU frequency as needed to keep the temperature desired. That is of course after the custom fan profile is at 100%.

I am enjoying the 87-90% utilization that I have seen, but those cards are sweating heavily. :) Work harder there yee poor silicon I say...work harder! Dear researchers, no easy WU's, make my silicon work hard! But do not crash them. :)

Have had SWAN_SYNC set to 0 on all my machines. Also running with the <cpu_usage>1.0</cpu_usage> line in my app_config. Woke up today to see each machine has completed tasks on the 335 driver (XP and Win7) where CPU time is nearly equal to GPU time.

Each thread given to a GPUGrid task is now actually using the whole thread now. Yup, it is working. Thanks.

This was winter time when this post was done. Now with warmer days and the {NATHAN_RPS1, SDOERR_BARNA, GIANNI_lig3} WU's, the boost is getting throttled down (~1125) with the 72 temp limit I have on there. These WU's are now getting 87-90% utilization. Yeah!

As Zoltan noted, the CPU is running 4+ (flickers between 4.1-4.2). CPU speed dependency was a bit of a surprise to me. I seem to recall a post that some DP calculations were pushed off to the CPU so I guess that would be part of the reason.

What are your top boost speeds? There is definitely a dependency on clock speed. http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=1150&nowrap=true#33133

I put the 335.23 driver on my Win7-64 machine, and it is now crunching the 8.40 Cuda55 tasks. They are short and not long, but now crunching and not getting errors. Will leave this driver on for a while. I had a soft spot for the 331.82 driver. Was able to get the better utilization with 331.82 according to Precision as compared to the 335.23.

I think I will go ahead and update this pc when I get a chance to see if it will work.

In the mean time, it may be best to not send 8.40 WU's to at least Win7-64 331.82 drivers. Not sure if that is possible.

My WinXP machines are currently crunching on the new WU's without errors. I see a 8.40 Cuda55 on a GTX460 and a 8.40 Cuda60 on a GTX680 on http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?hostid=149863&offset=0&show_names=1&state=0&appid=.

My other WinXP machine, a 8.40 Cuda60 is on a GTX680 with no issues so far. This is on http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?hostid=158717&offset=0&show_names=1&state=0&appid=

In the EVGA Precision software it is as easy as sliding a bar. Older cards have the "linked" unchecked and unable to check such as the 460 (could not set temp targets). So I just slide the Power Target to 90% in above situation. I have since moved it to 105% as I fixed the airflow problem I had with my case situation.

The default Fan Curve is for a real quiet (meaning hot) card. Click the Fan Curve to change it up a bit.

On my newer 780Ti cards, I unlink the power and temp target and leave Power at 105%, Temp at 72, and Prioritize Temp. That way, it will run full boost for SANTI WU's, and will throttle back on a combination of warm days and NOELIA WU's to keep it from going past 72 (even when fans have moved to 100%) if needed.

I use EVGA Precision software http://www.evga.com/precision/ to control both EVGA and Gigabyte cards. Supposed to work with all Nvidia cards. In one case which does not have good airflow, I run one card at the 90% power setting. This will auto undervolt (and underclock as a result) the card a little bit. This is one simple way to reduce the stress on the card.

The big thing to reduce the stress on the card without slowing it down is to keep it cool. Increase the fan speed on the card (can do a custom fan profile with the EVGA software). Note other people use MSI Afterburner which I have not used, but I imagine does all the same.

Also, good airflow through the case. Or you can go liquid cooling.

I do not like letting my cards run >72. Not necessarily a magic number, but the cards will last longer and have fewer errors.
