Mobile cards are not suitable for crunching

Strange... I've been running WUs on this 950M for some two years.

Plus, my understating is that NVidia has stopped designating any distinction between laptop and desktop GPUs, as the performances are, of late, very comparable

Besides the upload errors,
a couple, resultid=21544426 and resultid=21532174, had said:
"Detected memory leaks!"
So I ran extensive memory diagnostics, but no errors were reported by windoze (extensive as in some eight hours of diagnostics).
Boinc did not indicate if this was RAM or GPU 'memory leaks'

In fact, now I am wondering whether these 'memory leaks' were on my end at all, or on the GpuGrid servers...

Hm,
Toni's message (53295) was posted on the 7th. Toni used the past tense on the 7th ("I raised");
yet, https://gpugrid.net/result.php?resultid=21553648
ended on the 8th and still had the same frustrating error.
After running for hours, the results were nonetheless lost:
upload failure: <file_xfer_error>
<file_name>initial_1497-ELISA_GSN4V1-20-100-RND8978_0_0</file_name>
<error_code>-240 (stat() failed)</error_code>
</file_xfer_error>

Also, I must be just extremely unlucky. Toni says this came up on 'only a handful' of WUs, yet this happened to at least five of the WUs my GPUs ran.

I am holding off on running any GpuGrid WUs for a while, until this problem is more fully corrected.

Just for full disclosure... Industrial Engineers hate waste.

I am getting upload errors too, on most but not all (4 of 6) WUs...
but, only on my 950M, not on my 1660 Ti, ... or EVEN my GeForce 640 !!

need to increase the size limits of the output files

So, how is this done?
Via the Options, Computing preferences, under Network, the default values are not shown (that I can see). I WOULD have assumed that boinc manager would have these as only limited by the system constraints unless tighter limits are desired.
AND, only download rate, upload rate, and usage limits can be set.
Again, how should output file size limits be increased.

It would have been VERY polite of GpuGrid to post some notice about this with the new WU releases.

I am very miffed, and justifiably so, at having wasted so much of my GPU time and energy, and effort on my part to hunt down the problem. Indeed, there was NO feedback from GpuGrid on this at all; I only noticed that my RAC kept falling even though I was running WUs pretty much nonstop.

I realize that getting research done is the primary goal, but if GpuGrid is asking people to donate their PC time and GPU time, then please be more polite to your donors.

I do agree that it would be nice to have some brief note in a forum or - even better - on the main homepage or a notice in the manager.

However, I ask that we be a bit more patient. The faculty and graduate students are trying to do good research; that should be (and I hope, is) their primary goal.
Keeping our GPUs busy is not why their research projects are funded.
If you look at their publication record, they've been doing good work lately.
While not impossible, I seriously doubt they're about to shut down.

You should be able to run GPUGRIG WUs.

Having started with a 530, a few years ago I upgraded to a 640. (Please note that I am NOT a gamer, not at all.) I can run WUs OK, but it takes 2.3 to 8.8 times as long (times the averages given in the Performance page) on the 640.
If short runs are available, I tend to run those. However, even when only long run WUs are being generated, my 'lil 640 is chunking along OK. (Note that I keep my PC running 24/7.)
I had of late been giving MUCH thought to upgrading again. However, I am not going to invest in an external power supply. So, I'm rather limited to 750s or 1050s by power constraints. For now, I am not interested in spending $150 or so for such an upgrade**, when the 640 is still running fine.

In fact, in early March (2017) I DID buy a 750Ti, over Ebay. (not used, not reconditioned... straight from a factory in China) BIG mistake. While the price was 'good' ($77), I was taken badly. After having installed it (and I had to buy a different power connector), I realized (TechPowerUp GPU-Z as well as Nvidia GeForce Experience) that I had been 'sold a bill of goods.' Although NVidia and GeForce where written all over the unit, and the logos everywhere, the GPU was, essentially, junk. It only had 192 cores, while the NVidia specs are for 640. Well, as my existing GT 640 had 384 cores, I put that thing back in.
It took some two dozen rounds of emails, threats about reporting these Ebay con-artists to NVidia, etc. etc, but luckily I was finally able to get my money back.

** PS, I work from home several days a week, and having dual monitors is important for my productivity. Neither of my monitors has a DHMI input, so I am also limited in my choice of GPU models in this regard as well.

Not sure if there might be a better thread for this question, especially as it has been ignored for nearly four weeks, but I concur (mostly):

"My only concern about this project is how long it will be running. Before I put more money to it, I'd like to feel at ease that it won't end any time soon(possibly a time estimate on how long it will run?). Might seem foolish but I see these other projects closing down. I don't want to go out and buy something and then have this project be done."

While I do run quite a few other projects, I (try to) use my GPU exclusively for GpuGrid. (A reasonable alternative was POEM, but that has now folded [pun intended]). I have in the past (about 3-4 years ago) invested in a (+- small) upgrade. I am pondering doing so again. As I've posted before: I am NOT a gamer. I have a GPU solely to support scientific computing projects.

SO, some moderator,... any moderator... any idea how long GPU might keep rolling along?
I presume this really is a question not for a moderator, but for some of the academic faculty doing research which feeds the computing needs for this project.

Thanks,

Uncertainty about the timeout being enforced comes from the fact that the Performance page will list several batches with maximum run time (in the box-plots) of well over 120 hours.

In the past couple of weeks, the lion's share of WUs have been running very, very long.
In the past week or so, I have aborted a dozen or more WUs because, while running, they were heading to well over 5 days of compute time.
At this posting I have a WU running with anticipated completion time of just over 11 days (270 hours). I really would like to run this one, since I have not been able to run any GPUGRID WUs in nearly two weeks.

First, I'd like to say that I really like supporting GPUGRID as a project. The team publishes results. Also, it seems so many other distributed (grid) computing projects are in theoretical math or in astronomy. I LIKE supporting a project which we can hope will improve human health down the road.

I have a pretty modest GPU (GT 640**) compared to many GPUGRID hosts. However, I have been averaging right at 11 WU a month (almost every single one long-run). Also, I imagine that I am far from unique... that there are many BOINC volunteers 'out there' who have a more modest system (not costing a grand or more, and with no external power supply.)
I appreciate that timely turn-around is important, but there is no other BOINC project of which I am aware with such a short time-out limit on WUs (I am active in 15 projects, not counting several which have by now ended). Ten to 20 days is pretty typically the time limit. SETI has a time limit of over 5 weeks.
So, my question: Is GPUGRID snubbing potential BOINC volunteers who have, say, a GeForce, but not a Titan or whatever?

Thanks.

...I did just recently update the drivers; however, Milkyway gpu WUs are running just fine.

WU e15s19_e14s24p1f286-GERARD_CXCL12_DIMPROTO3-0-1-RND3500_2 has been stuck at '85% "progress" ' for some 12 hours now.
I only have a 640, so WUs take 40-60 hours generally.
This task has already run for 69:58.
is this part of a defective batch?
How many more hours should I sacrifice for this WU?
I am presuming that if I abort it, there will be zero credit for these 70 hours (even if it is a flawed WU?)

I Run Win 7 on my HP-1120, i7-2600. (I am NOT going to 'upgrade' to Win 10 for months, until (I hope) MS gets all the garbage in Win8-10 patched up.)

Please advise.

Meanwhile I have paused it and am putting my GPU to better use.

Thanks.
