We really need to measure the performance loss when using PCIE3 vs PCIE2 and at various amounts of lane count. It was done roughly on PCIE2 with the old app for previous generations of cards, but things have changed since then. Some apps perform much better with additional PCIE bandwidth, especially PCIE3 as it's twice as fast as PCIE2.

hello skgiven and ETA,
i put two gt 640 in my PCIE2 16x slots and the memory controller load is at 70%.
that means the system is not fully busy (~ 30% load free) or am i wrong and a PCIE3 is required ? gpu load is 96-98%.

another strange thing:
the first card in slot:
GPU-temp : 53.0 °C
Fan speed: 35 %
VDDC: 0.9870 Volt

the second card in slot:
GPU-temp : 59.0 °C
Fan speed: 47%
VDDC: 1.0120 Volt

both cards are running with the same speed (clock and memory). :/

good work !

very very white for my taste but OK. (maybe after the black style )

i´ve searched the "my account"-button 3 minutes long until i found that after a click on the username. *lol*

no bugs found.

a suggestion:

Instructions to participate

Hard disk install

Check your GPU compatibility (by skgiven).
Download and install the required GPU drivers
            CUDA drivers required [Download]
Download and install the recommended BOINC client (6.12.34)
            BOINC for Windows 32-bit
            BOINC for Windows 64-bit
            BOINC for Linux 64-bit

it would be better to link not directly to the binary of each one.
boincclients changed many times and so you should better link to:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php
or
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

i use swan_sync and switch the app manually to lowest priority, because the system is very laggy.
without swan_sync no problem, but the gpu usage is 10% lesser.
only the "toni-WUs" are running with more acceptable gpu-load but 90%+ would be better for the project.
energy is not cheap like water.

with the newest nvidia beta driver the applications running fine.
no more reboot/crash and the effort is lost.
now i can reboot or crashing the system without any WU damage. ;)

you should not link directly to boincsoftware download, because 6.10.36 is old, maybe a link to the downloadarea (32/64bit and OS) would be nice.

OK, thank you Mark !

what is with open-cl support to bring up the ATI-power to the project ?

here is a post from timo strunk about open_cl ( developer poem@home ):

Hi everybody,

So, first of all: We will not use CUDA in our app. OpenCL can do everything CUDA can do and there's really no need to use it anymore (however that's my opinion). Apart from that we are working hard to get everything to work in Single Precision. So far our forcefields are exact in single precision with the exception of our Solvent Accessible Surface Area term, which will be deployed on the CPU for the moment. The new SASA forcefield is about 7 times faster than the old one on the CPU already though and during the next time somebody will be working to deploy it also on GPUs.

So the GPU part will be single precision and OpenCL; there's also no question whether we release first ATI or NVidia - these two releases won't be more than 1-2 days apart for sure, because the code is not different apart from optimization parameters. Personally I use the ATI Stream SDK on CPU for debugging bugs usually.

As to release dates: Well we were a bit off, when we estimated POEM++ to be done for the end of CASP, therefore at the moment we are hesitant to specify an immediate release date. The CPU part however is done and we are thinking to release it first, because it also gives already quite a speedup.

Best,
Timo

hello to all ;)

i have 3 questions atm:

1.)
why i only get applications for cuda ( 6.05 ) and my card is ready for cuda 3.1 ?
win7 x64
gtx 260

2.)
why are so lees wu´s on the server and only 2 WU´s maximum ???

3.) can you optimize the apps to more gpu usage ?

lg
