Stuck on 'uploading'
(Message 57929)
Posted 28 Nov 2021 by zombie67 [MM] Post: Instructions for working round the 'expired certificate'problem at GPUGrid. I followed the instructions (and thanks for posting that!), and it worked to get the files uploaded. But the task will not report. I have this same problem across 3 different machines. I get the following: 131 GPUGRID 11/28/2021 7:18:52 AM update requested by user 135 GPUGRID 11/28/2021 7:19:01 AM [sched_op] Fetching master file 136 GPUGRID 11/28/2021 7:19:01 AM Fetching scheduler list 137 GPUGRID 11/28/2021 7:19:03 AM [sched_op] Deferring communication for 1 days 00:00:00 138 GPUGRID 11/28/2021 7:19:03 AM [sched_op] Reason: 52 consecutive failures fetching scheduler list FWIW, I did update the "<scheduler_url>" line as instructed. |

Anaconda Python 3 Environment v4.01 failures
(Message 56039)
Posted 17 Dec 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: I was running 7.9.3, which is what was in the default repository for mint. It had the other problem, with only 20 credits per task. Now I am running the version from ppa:costamagnagianfranco/boinc , which is version 7.16.14. This version had the permissions problem. The PrivateTmp=true change seems to have fixed the issue on the machines that have received work so far. Interesting to learn that all linux installations do it as a service install. I thought that caused a problem with GPU crunching? Maybe that is only for windows? Or maybe I am thinking of something else? In any case, good to know. |

Posted 17 Dec 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: I just read through this whole thread, and I am still not clear what changes I need to make to fix the permissions error. FWIW, I have the regular BOINC installation, not a service installation. Thanks. I wan't sure that applied to my situation, since my installation is not a service installation. And those instructions included "service". I added the lines, assuming I figured out the editor correctly. I know only vi. Anyway, just waiting for new tasks to try out now. |

Posted 17 Dec 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: they were working fine on your 2080ti system when you had 7.17.0. why change it? That was a kludge. There is no such thing as 7.17.0. =;^) Once I verified that the newer version worked, I updated all my machines with the latest repository version, so it would be clean and updated going forward. |

Posted 16 Dec 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: A second, identical machine, except it has dual RTX 1660 Ti cards, finally got some work. The tasks reported and were awarded the large credits. So that rules out the question WRT BOINC version. FWIW, that version of BOINC is the latest available from the repository. So maybe it is due to interruptions after all, and I am just unaware? I am running some more tasks now, and will check again in the morning. |

Posted 15 Dec 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: you also appear to have your hosts setup to ONLY crunch these beta tasks. is there a reason for that? I have reached my wuprop goals for the other apps. So I am interested in only this particular app (for now). does your system process the normal tasks fine? maybe it's something going on with your system as a whole. Yep, all the other apps run fine, both here and on other projects. |

Posted 15 Dec 2020 by zombie67 [MM] Post: Two outstanding issues are over-crediting (I am using some default BOINC formula) and, as far as i understand, the flops estimate (?). Over-crediting? I am seeing the opposite problem. https://www.gpugrid.net/result.php?resultid=31902208 20.83 credits for 4.5 hours of run time on an RTX 2080 Ti. That is practically nothing. And this is not a one-off. All my tasks so far are similar. |

(Message 52738)
Posted 28 Sep 2019 by zombie67 [MM] Post: There are two different gt1030's. One is significantly slower than the other else they are identical. The newer versions are crippled. I was wondering if the pair you have together are matched. Just a guess as that could cause unexpected timing values if the apps simply checks the name and does not bother to recalculate parameters. These two 1030s are identical. Same brand and model, bought at the same time. It seems like a clue, that only the CUDA 100 tasks fail, and not the CUDA 101. Note, another of my machines has a single, identical 1030 (also purchased at the same time). It does fail either 101 or 100. Perhaps there is something about CUDA 100 and dual-card machines. Just a guess. |
