I just now installed 185.65 on my XP64 box. When it rebooted my mouse and UPS were not detected until I unplugged the USBs to both of them and reconnected them. It seems to be working fine now. Its strange it affected the USB ports it seems. I upgraded from 182.08 I have noticed the GPU temps have risen about 3c from 59c to 62c with new driver it seems initially. I had to speed up the fan a little. It seems to be faster also, although it is too early to tell for sure. |

So I gather that they still haven't got the fan ramping up their speed properly with these drivers as the card heats up? BOINC blog |

I'd rather think Mark H. manually set the fan to a fixed speed to keep noise tolerable. I also tried 185.xx (think it was .66 for Vista 64) and I can confirm a temperature increase of about 3°C. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

I expect that, but since my card needs ~12h per WU it will take a long time until I can say anything definite. And.. this may not have been the most wise thin in the world.. I changed it from stock back to its OCed clocks. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

So I gather that they still haven't got the fan ramping up their speed properly with these drivers as the card heats up? nVidia drivers do not influence fan behavior on the GT200/GT200b cards unless you've used the driver to set a fixed constant fan speed. When you use the cards the way they're designed, the fan settings are set in the card's BIOS. There is software that override the BIOS settings, but base behavior is still in the BIOS, not the driver. |

Yes, the link doesn't work any more. But you'd want the Vista-32 edition instead of the one for XP anyway. Just download the latest 185.xx beta for your OS and give it a go. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

Ive tried to load them for my vista 32bit but it says file not found :s Set the language on the Nvidia download site to english and you should get the 185.66 drivers which are from yesterday... ;-) pixelicious.at - my little photoblog |

Is that the Vista machine in your profile? It's 64 Bit, not 32. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

I've got a performance number: from 69.1 ms/step to 63.0 ms/step. With an OC of 2%/6%/6% for core/shader/mem I should have gotten at best 6& higher performance, which would have meant a time of 65.2 ms/step. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

So, now let's wait for beta GPUGRID application running on CUDA 2.2.... :-) From Siberia with love!

Yes it makes you wonder if there is some stuff in cuda 2.2 that could be used to reduce the cpu usage even further. Maybe a cuda 2.2 app? BOINC blog |

Why would you want to reduce CPU usage even more? It's almost non-existent now and any further improvements wil require serious effort with minimal benefit. However, if they could improve the client performance by just 5% .. now that would be a serious improvement! Basically, if you talk about saving some tens of CPU cycles, then improving the GPU speed would result in the equivalent of at least ten-thousands of cpu-cycles. (I don't want to offend you .. it's just something which has been bugging me ever since the cpu-time discussion started: people apparently only look at the cpu time, as if they wouldn't understand what the GPU is doing) MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

Why would you want to reduce CPU usage even more? It's almost non-existent now ... You are only speaking about the Win app, aren't you? ;-) As nice as the Windows application is now, it seems the Linux app got forgotten when they made those changes... When I started with GPPGRID and we made the first tests, Windows used a full core and Linux almost nothing. Now it's vice versa. The Win app needs almost no CPU, and the Linux app takes between 60-80% of one CPU core on my C2Q 6600 with a 8800GT and GTX260. I know, you don't said that to me, but no, I don't only look at the CPU time. ;-) But if it is possible for Win to use less CPU time and give that time to other CPU projects, it would be nice if that could also be made for Linux again... pixelicious.at - my little photoblog |

With an OC of 2%/6%/6% for core/shader/mem I should have gotten at best 6& higher performance, which would have meant a time of 65.2 ms/step. How is Schizo1988 getting 30 ms/steps? e.g. http://www.gpugrid.net/result.php?resultid=494028? Oh, yes.. sorry, completely forgot about Linux! May be because the Ubuntu boxes at work are such b******, you can't do anything with them. Until you use some black magic, but I've never really gotten past sacrificing the goat. And I always forget if the monkey band has to dance clockwise or anti-clockwise when they're screeching the Monkey Island theme. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |
