Your card is a 8800 GTS 320 MB. It's based on the G80 chip, which unfortunately only supports CUDA hardware capability 1.0, whereas GPU-Grid needs at least 1.1 (G92 etc.). Sorry, it's not going to work. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

Er.......Some of the usable GPU's are G84, G92, G94, G96, and GT200. These have 32 or more stream processors. GPUgrid uses CUDA 2.0 (Software) and GPU's with Compute Capability 1.1 (Hardware) or higher. Software CUDA has a 'software' programming level of 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0... 'CUDA' is the software compute engine for NVIDIA graphics processing units or GPUs, that is accessible to software developers through industry standard programming languages. The new 'CUDA' enabled Video card drivers (for nVidia 8 series and above) have a CUDA 2.0 support level. Hardware Nvidia GPU's are programmed from the factory with a 'Compute Capability' of either 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3...This 'Capability' is hard coded in the GPU and tells the CUDA software what type of calculations that GPU is 'Capable' of. Example: Both the 8800 GTS 320/640mb AND the 8800 GTS 512mb can use the CUDA 2.0 Drivers. But, the 8800 GTS 320/640mb will not support the application level of Compute Capability 1.1, it is only 'coded' (on the GPU chip) to work with a Compute Capability 1.0 application level. The 8800 GTS 512mb GPU does have Compute Capability 1.1, and can be used with GPUgrid. This can be a confusing topic and we should understand the difference. As the Compute Capability is not the same for all projects. GPUgrid is the only project (to date) which is using Compute Capability 1.1. Everyone else is using Compute Capability 1.0 (so far). This is why users are having problems when they show up (with a G80 GPU) after crunching away happily on another project, and then hit a brick wall here... ....Geez, I sure can ramble on in the wee hours of the evening...;).... Consciousness: That annoying time between naps...... Experience is a wonderful thing: it enables you to recognize a mistake every time you repeat it. |

Thanks for the info. I thought gpugrid had been around for quite awhile, just assumed my card was new enough.Oh well crunch on..when if I upgrade I'll be back. Anyway team Seattle Hempfest would be delighted to have gpuers on our team.. |
