Having standardised on Boinc 6.5.0 and wound the overclocking back a tad on the video card, I'm now happily running GPUgrid in 2+1 mode. But actually I'm in 2+1+1 mode!

I'm crunching 2 Milky Way units on my Pentium D plus a GPUgrid one, plus ALSO a Freehal@home one as well. According to Task Manager Freehal uses zero cpu or system resources, and seems to be racking up credit from fresh air.

Can anyone say how it does this, and would how it does it be of help to reducing CPU utilisation at GPUgrid??

You do not need the extra configuration file with 6.5.0 ... so that cc_something file you used with 6.4.5 needs to be deleted.

Oh, and FreeHAL is a "non-cpu intense" project that only runs in short bursts so presents a very low load to the CPU ...

So, with GPU Grid, FreeHAL you should have 1 more project running than you have CPUs plus GPUs ... in the case of a 4 core with one GPU you would have 6 tasks in flight. In the case of my i7 with 4 GPU cores I have 8 + 4 + 1 = 13 tasks in flight ...

I'm running 7 tasks atm - 1 GPUGRID, 2 FreeHALL@home and 4 WCG WUs (Q9300 +8800 GT).
