Hi, I've been experiencing constant errors for a while with my brand new 295 card. Here's one of the WU : http://www.gpugrid.net/result.php?resultid=248394 Does anyone know how I could fix this issue ? Thanks a lot. |

Also, suspect corruption in the operating system or drivers. For an example, see this thread: Continual computing errors A clean install of the operating system along with the Nvidia driver release 181.22 and a fresh copy of BOINC may fix such a problem. |

I'll give a try making a clean install of nVidia drivers, and if doesn't work either, I'll install a fresh XP. Thank you. |

You may be fighting the same stability problems I was with my pair of GTX 260s. The fans weren't speeding up as the card started running CUDA full tilt, so the card would soon overheat and become unstable, causing driver errors, BSODs, and failing the work units in the process. All of the GTX cards run hot under almost any load, and CUDA will fully saturate and max out all cores on these cards, so if you don't cool them very well, it doesn't take long to exceed stable temperatures. See this thread to see how I fix the cooling problem with settings http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=697 I haven't had a single error running CUDA since I did this. Hope this helps! |

This is to both dJ3781 and pharring. Do you both have at least a 700 watt power supply? Nvidia recommends a 680w PS for the geforce 295, and 500w for a single 260, with about 183w for the card, so a second one would be just shy of 700w. If you aren't deviling enough power to the card, then yes, you will have computation errors, with a sporadic few working fine. |

I have a Corsair CMPSU-750TX (750W) which have been proven to be able to deliver more than 750W. So I guess that it's enough to make my GTX295 run at 100% for a while :( I did a fresh Windows XP install this night, I hope it'll fix my issue. Otherwise, I guess that some previous computing damaged my card... |

So I guess that it's enough to make my GTX295 run at 100% for a while :( I would be suspicious of that statement. It can deliver the power and not melt down this is true, but, I think something is clearly saying that it is not happy. Are you using direct connections from the PSU to the card? Or using the work around plugs? Some PSUs though rated as having enough power may not actually have enough power (amperage) on the critical "rails" to support the draw ... Do you have another PSU of equal or greater power? Another PSU of any size? You might want to try running the Disk drive, DVD and fans off a second PSU and the MB and GPU off the other ... a noisy component could also be the culprit ... |

Well, 750W seems far enough for a single video card oO |

Well, 750W seems far enough for a single video card oO Yes it does. But 750 watts of what? And I ran 2 cards on a 780W PSU ... but it was also a higher end version and I since changed it out for a 1K ... looking at the wall draw I am only pulling 600W so either should be adequate. But the key words are "should be" ... If the card needs 200 W on the 12 volt rail and there is only one 12 volt rail and it is only capable of providing 190 watts, you are ten watts low... giving rise to potential problems. Secondly, if there is a component that is generating a lot of noise on the supply line that can disrupt the GPU, which is why I asked if the GPU was being directly fed from the PSU or you were using the disk drive power lines through the adapter provided. The notes in all my Nvidia cards strongly suggest that you not use that except as an interim solution. I am not saying that these are the case, I am simply suggesting that there is still the possibility that it is the PSU. The other possibilities are the GPU itself or the MB ... both harder to test ... Anyway, just trying to make suggestions so you can consider things to try ... |

I'm sorry, I just went through your post a bit too fast... The card is directly connected to the PSU, there's no additional connector used to fit the 8-pin and 6-pin connectors in. According to Corsair's website : +3.3V +5V +12V -12V +5Vsb 24A 28A 60A 0.8A 3A 180W 720W 9.6W 15W So, I thought that a single 60A over 12V would do the job (as at full load a GTX 295 pulls 290W ~, which makes 24A over 12V)... I'm not THAT away from encountering PSU limitations, but I don't think that I'm struggling with it right now :( Edit : Reading at PoorBoy's thread, I think I should go for warranty... |

Perhaps that is best. What I have experienced is smooth sailing with the first GTX 280 card, then with the GTX 295 I got later. And hopefully wednesday I will get another good card too ... I will say that it is unusual to get a bad card, but not unheard of ... |

Anyway, thank you for your help, even when I got kinda rudish. I'll put a feedback when I'm done with the warranty thing. |

My power supply is an Enermax Revolution 85+ It has 950watts (though they make even larger versions), with 6 +12v rails, each with 30amps. Very stable, and extremely efficient to boot. It should be way more than I need for a pair of GTX 260's. I don't think power is an issue for me. |
