Hello, Im brand new to this project, however I have been doing Sah, rosetta and world grid for years. It seems some people have been getting work from the GPUgrid project, I cant.I have tried everything the forum says to try, no joy. I keep getting the no work sent. Full-atom molecular dynamic cell processor is not available etc. What should I do? Boinc 6.5.0 Nvidia 8800gts 640 Nvidia driver 180.84 Vista Business |

Hello, Your graphics card could be the problem, see here |

Hello, When you first start BOINC do you get the CUDA device found message? That would be my other question ... |

Like Temujin already said, unfortunately your card isn't supported. pixelicious.at - my little photoblog |

Thank you for the reply guys. Ill quit trying to get work now..lol. I just assumed since it would run on 8800gt and 9600gtx that the 8800 gts would work. I guess I have to get a new video card if I want to do this project. I am also fairly embarrassed I didn't read ALL of the FAQ. Thanks again, see you all when I get a more suitable card. P.S. I DO get CUDA device:8800 GTS when starting BOINC |

Then all I can suggest is that the scheduler is smart enough to know that it is likely that your system could not return the work by the deadline ... if they extend the deadline then maybe you can use that card. You can try SaH, if you are eager to jump in, though the reviews over there are not good for the CUDA application. Keep looking at the boards, other projects will be coming along soon I suspect... at least within the year I would expect one more project ... but that is the optimist side ... the pessimist side says BOINC Manager will still be goofed up ... |

Sorry, but no, it also wouldn't work at GPUGRID if there would be longer deadlines, because the 8800 GTS 640MB / G80 chip only has computing capability 1.0. GPUGRID needs at least computing capability 1.1 or higher. See FAQ... pixelicious.at - my little photoblog |

And for those interested, version 1.0 and version 1.1 are incompatible because: "With CUDA v1.1, the driver API functions have been integrated with the display driver. The CUDA driver (nvcuda.dll) is installed in the %SystemRoot%\system32 directory along with display driver files such as nv4_disp.dll (the display driver) and nvoglnt.dll (the OpenGL driver). As a result, driver API applications must be rebuilt using CUDA 1.1 in order to work. In addition, CUDA 1.0 driver API applications *are not* supported by CUDA 1.1- compatible display drivers. The CUDA 1.0 driver (cuda.dll) does not work properly on systems running CUDA 1.1 display drivers. If a CUDA 1.0 application is run on a CUDA 1.1 display driver, it will not be able to create a CUDA context." from: http://developer.download.nvidia.com/compute/cuda/1_1/CUDA_Toolkit_Release_Notes_1.1_Win.txt In short, the 8800GTS (and other G80-based cards) are recognized by BOINC correctly as CUDA devices (version 1.0), but the GPUGRID application is built at the CUDA 1.1 level. I believe that Paul is correct, however, that your card will work over at SETI@home. |

Ummmm... ...the 8800GTS (and other G80-based cards) are recognized by BOINC correctly as CUDA devices (version 1.0), but the GPUGRID application is built at the CUDA 1.1 level.... I think you are confusing CUDA with Compute Capability. I'm pretty sure this project is using CUDA 2.0... The 8800 GTS (G80 chip) is CUDA 2.0 Compatible, But it's hardware is coded for 'Compute Capability' 1.0 level applications. That is why it will not run the GPUgrid application....which requires 'Compute Capability' 1.1 devices (or higher), which are G84 (chip) or higher GPU's.... But you are correct about G80 cards working on Seti. Consciousness: That annoying time between naps......
