I think that the protected install option is set at the very beginning of the install, where you select the folder, etc. It is a checkbox you should be looking for in the installation program. I don't think you can change the option after the install unless you reinstall.

Int the description to join GPUGRID with Nvidia card you find:
"For Windows 32 bit and Windows 64 bit . VERY IMPORTANT, on Windows Vista it is required to deselect 'protected mode' in the advanced tab during installation!".
Otherwise the client will not find your CUDA device(s). I made this mistake! ;-)

If you upgrade from a 5 series client you'll probably loose the old workunits due to the different program / data paths, but if you upgrade from a 6 series client you should be fine. Just install the new one and be sure to deselect protected mode.

If you upgrade from a 5 series client you'll probably loose the old workunits due to the different program / data paths, but if you upgrade from a 6 series client you should be fine. Just install the new one and be sure to deselect protected mode.

The migration from 5 to 6 works well and I have never lost work yet ... but that is just my experience ... :)

I am also running 6.5.0 and it seems to work the best (for me) ... if you want to swap between the later versions of 6.x I have had no troubles going up and down the ladder all the way from 5.45 to 6.5.0 and back again ... YMMV

As a precaution you can back-up with simple copy commands the applicable directories and then make the changes ... so at least you can go back to where you were then re-install the old version (to reset the switches and the registry and permissions and who knows what).
