I noticed today that seti's cuda app was not triggering performance 3d clocks... I also found that GPU grid's app isn't triggering them either.

This is on a GTX 260 core 216 SC with 180.48 drivers

ATI tool is the only over-clocking program I've found that can raise 2d/low 3d clocks.

You might want to check your gtx 260's and 280's to see if the same thing is happening to yours...

Being an idiot here, what the heck do you mean?

GPU's have a low power mode... (like CPU's..) It will lower the clock speeds to save power when not running a 3d app. Sometimes the GPUgrid app gets low power 3d clocks, other times its only 2d clocks.. (2d clock is 300 mhz, low power 3d is 400 mhz, performance 3d is 650mhz... Those are core speeds)

@Paul

You won't see such behaviour from your 9800GT because the G92 chip doesn't have (or in nVidia terms "doesn't need") such power saving modes.

So far so good for that card ... but I will need to worry when the new guy gets here ... :)

I have Rivatuner running on all my Windows boxes to check the temperature and speed of the GPUs. The GTX2xx cards have power saving modes.

GTX280
GPUGrid running 601/1296/1107
GPUGrid stopped 399/100/100

GTX260²
GPUGrid running 576/1242/999
