Message 62426 - Posted: 17 May 2025, 6:35:27 UTC

My laptop has a 4060 laptop GPU with driver 528.76. I cannot update the driver due to OEM issues. Before this project changed to the new server, I can receive and process ATMML work units successfully, but now the server notices me that I should update my driver to continue to get tasks.
Is it really necessary to have a new driver? Like, does the programs changed while switched to the new server?

The same with Debian-Linux.
Is this the plan: to get conservative Linux-distributions out?
When, I'm out in October, my last Windows will rest in peace then, buried by Microsoft's hardware politics.

Despite hardware restrictions, it is possible to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

I don’t know what you mean by “due to OEM issues”

Just go to the Nvidia website and download drivers for your 4060 laptop. The drivers aren’t special from the OEM, Nvidia strictly controls this now

"Despite hardware restrictions, it is possible to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11."

That is NOT the problem, I DISAGREE their hard ware politics, it is ridiculous, disgusting and out of time.
My problem is that conservative linux distributions, like Debian, are excluded from GPUGRID because of their slower gpu driver development. My knowledge about implementing the original Drivers is not that, that you need, so for amateurs not practicable.

This is absolutely not the case.

Debian is fully capable of participating in this project, and here is an example of someone running Debian with very recent Nvidia drivers (probably the most recent at the time of this writing, but it's hard to tell because BOINC can't exceed ".99" in minor version numbers): https://gpugrid.net/gpugrid/show_host_detail.php?hostid=612396

The highest nvidia driver I get offered from debian is: 535.247.01.
So hostid=612396 seems to go another way, a way I don't know or am able to go.

If I use drivers from NV website, I lose control of voltages and powers of my GPU. In MSI Afterburner, the options just get black.

Interesting. For me, it was just the opposite. Once I started installing drivers directly from Nvidia website instead of the distro provided drivers, I gained new power readings in the Nvidia X Server Settings app.

Never had that before with the distro drivers. Same version numbered drivers too. So the distro maintainers are hacking what Nvidia provides to dumb them down for their users.

unselect the LLM/LLMS apps from your project preferences. those are the only ones that produce the message about the drivers as I understand it.

ATMML tasks don't need it, but your difficulty in getting work is likely more related to task scarcity than to the driver warning message

I'm not selecting LLM/LLMS from the very beginning.
