If you want to use Discord go for it. I will not be joining. For the time being I have removed the project from my list. When/if there is a consistent supply of work for Windows I may add the project back to my list. For reasons I am unsure of the GPUgrid folder in my project folder has nothing in it it's completely empty |

I agree, hasn't been consistent work in years. |

Yup me too, but it has been better in the last 6 months, though I am still not getting any right now even though it shows there are tasks available. |

Perfectly good forum here and the admin can't be bothered using it. Poor form. |

Not gonna move to discord. No WU coming in for months. I guess GPUgrid is abandoned. |

Not gonna move to discord. No WU coming in for months. these hyperbolic comments from fair weather users never fail to amuse. it's normal for GPUGRID to have stretches of no work and small batch work and none of that makes the project "abandoned" LOL. sure it's nice to have infinite work just perpetually crunching N+1 at projects like Primegrid and other prime/number theory projects. but not all projects have the resources to constantly prepare enough work for a large pool of GPU users. GPUGRID is run via a university and the majority of work is targeted research. someone needs to form an idea, generate a plan for how to generate work that's compatible with BOINC, then deploy, and after they are crunched the data needs to be collated and results processed, conclusions formed, etc. it's a process. Several other projects operate on a similar workflow (DENIS, TN-Grid, Rosetta, others at times).

We mainly use discord these days: ...using propriatory non-GDPR-compliant communication tools is a very bad idea, these days. Check out this one, taken from the German Wikipedia: "Discord’s privacy policy authorizes the company to transmit, collect, and process all chats, messages, and other data in unencrypted form for commercial purposes. By agreeing to the terms of service, you expressly allow Discord to track and store information from direct messages, images you send, and voice chats. In addition, all data may be transferred to servers in the United States. As a result, Discord does not provide the protection of personal data required by the GDPR and is therefore not GDPR-compliant. Although Discord is free even for commercial use, it is therefore virtually unusable within the EU." Besides this, information exchanged via messenger is massively volatile. This forum, by contrast, is organized in topics and helps people find things quickly - even after years. It serves as a knowledge base. And since it is organized essentially the same way in all BOINC projects, even new users can easily find their way around. I would therefore appreciate it if the forum - rather than Discord - continued to be used and maintained. Michael. President of Rechenkraft.net - Germany's first and largest distributed computing organization. |
