Please consider extending the WU deadline! I have just missed 2 deadlines and "wasted" 5 days of computing just for a few hours. What is the point of such strict limits? Perhaps I am missing the logic behind, but I am considering leaving the project for more flexible solutions. Kind regards, Andrea Fontana |

Best to use the 750 Ti and 1030 somewhere else. I do wish the tasks were shorter anyway. |

I agree. they are realistically too slow for GPUGRID. but the 1080Ti is still sufficient. Use the slow cards somewhere else, or invest in faster GPUs for GPUGRID.

Still it would be interesting to know the rationale behind the relatively short deadline (there are projects within BOINC where the dealines are up to 4 weeks), particularly in view of the recent, extremely long tasks. |

They probably don’t want to wait months for their results. If I was a researcher I wouldn’t want to wait that long either. Some projects are running years long research that arent very dependent on fast results or continuously have new data that need to be processed. But GPUGRID seems to do small batches of varying different problems. They probably want the results faster to be able to write their paper and move on to the next project or problem to look into. If the results were relying on getting data back from every casual user, a 4-week deadline could easily turn into 2-3 months, if it lands in the hands of several people who fail to complete the work by the deadline and needs to be resent out to more users who do the same thing. This scenario, while a small minority, DOES happen and did happen on SETI. Limiting the deadline probably helps prevent this kind of situation. Maybe they could have some kind of hybrid situation where they give the original _0 task say 10 days, but a much shorter deadline (2 days) to successive resends to expedite completion if the _0 doesn’t come back in time.

Thanks for the replies. The explanation makes sense and I will use the older cards for other projects! |
