World Community Grid is already offering GPU versions of their Open Pandemics tasks, though.

and they are working fantastically with Ampere cards

OpenPandemics GPU tasks take about 20 minutes on my GTX 1060 while Einstein@homw GW GPU tasks take about 30 minutes on my GTX 1650.

I saw that Nvidia is going to introduce a new line of GPU products aimed at mining. At the same time they plan to adjust the drivers for RTX cards to make them much less suitable for mining. I would expect that this adjustment would have the same effect for computational computing.
That's illegal. Microsoft is planning to also tamper with products consumers have already purchased. Expect an action against them from the Federal Trade Commission. So Nvidia sells their GPU chips to a card manufacturer and they in turn sell it to an end consumer. They have no right to then go and degrade the performance of the products they've already sold.

1. it's not illegal, even if they implement a driver update for existing cards (which they aren't doing, yet, but even in that case you're free to just... not use the new driver)
2. they are bringing out a NEW line of GPUs, new skus. the new skus have different features. same as what they did with the RTX3060. the new cards are being limited from the hardware, BIOS, and driver level from what I've read.

current rumors suggest that the 3080ti FE card (the founders edition from nvidia directly) will not have the hashrate limiter for Ethereum. but all the AIB cards will. nvidia is allowed to tell AIBs how to make their product since they are using nvidia's product and they have done this for years. if an AIB doesn't play ball with nvidia's wishes, nvidia can and will stop selling their GPUs to that AIB.

it's not illegal
It is a crime: https://www.ftc.gov/enforcement/statutes
Please join me in filing a complaint against these perps: https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/
Hopefully folks in the EU will do the same.

Nothing in there says that a company can’t release a new product with different features.

None of this will matter for BOINC tho so unless you’re mining ethereum it makes no difference to you or anyone else on GPUGRID.

Good luck with your report. It won’t materialize into anything tho.

I'd rather file a complaint against the *coins being fraud in the sense of a snow ball scheme. Not 100% serious, but I really think we should not waste vaste ressources on this "proof by computational power".
