I just finished my first wu here (http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?userid=8839) and it was returned past the deadline. unfortunately, I did not get any credit for it although the wu was a success. could you please tell me whether this is the case for all wus that are returned too late, as I will need to stop crunching for this project as my graphic card seems to slow in that case?

I believe that the answer is yes regarding no credit for late returned workunits.

Your 8600GT is below the recommended speed for the project, so it is likely that you will return work late much of the time. I am afraid that the only way you will make it under the 4-day deadline is to run the GPU 24/7 without gameplay or other GPU intensive tasks. If you do that, I think it can return work in 3-4 days.

I think the answer is "It depends".

A WU is sent to, at least, 2 crunchers. If the deadline for you to return the WU is past, the scheduler on the server sends out a WU to a third PC. If you return the WU late, but before that third cruncher returns their WU, then you probably will get credit for it.

I've had several WU's that were returned late by a few hours and still got credit for them. However, if it was a day late, and the second and third crunchers returned their WU's, then I did NOT get credit.

Couldn't you shift the deadline for a day or two? That wouldn't harm the overall ocmputation too much and it would allow to make use of the older cards as well (in fact, it could speed up overall computation if those cards head a better chance to reply in time)

The problem is that then people would try slower cards and the issue would remain the same ... can we move the deadline out two more days ...

Because new tasks depend on work returned extending the deadline causes problems in keeping work flowing. Milky Way has similar issues, though their tasks run more quickly ...
