eVga precision problem: beware boost speeds

Just discovered that XOC 6.2.3 was setting the speed of both of my 1070s to the boost speed of the faster one which exceeded the boost speed of the slower gpu. Pretty sure this is what was causing the slower one to generate nvidia display resets and a BOATLOAD of errors. I ordered the 2nd 1070 when the price finally dropped to the what it used to be before that mining craze last January. It was a slightly different eVga model and clocked slower. Neither board caused a problem when running by themselves. I set both speeds down as far as XOC could let me. Both are below their boost speed but the lowest setting did not reach the core speed and unlinking the two did not allow dropping down to core speed which I would rather run at for 7/24 usage. |

Maybe you can try MSI Afterburner, I have tried most of the overclocking software and so far MSI Afterburner has been the most stable and reliable. |

I use MSI AB as well. Uninstall other software before MSI AB. Multiple programs controlling the same clocks isn't the best. |

There may be a setting to synchronize similar cards. Gamers want to use that to synchronize frame times. However, in your case this lead to the errors you describe. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

I'm using EVGA's Precision X OC. I prefer it over the others I have tried for the way I'm using it. My XOC is version 6.2.7 which seems to be the latest. You might try an update to see if it helps. Click on the settings gear in the lower right corner and on the General screen tab click on the Check now button. The only part I use XOC for is the fan curve. I set it to aggressive and let it run. As the GPU temp goes down the clocks go up on their own. For example I have a NVIDIA GTX 1070 FE card and its running at 1835 MHz all by itself. The specs are 1506 MHz base and 1683+ MHz boost. All of the dual card setups are matched cards but I have noticed some clock differences between the same cards anyway. You might try just setting the fan curve and see if the cards sort it out on their own. You should be able to set each card separately by unlinking them however I have had mixed results with that setting as well. You might need to stop and restart XOC after changing it. Also use GPU-Z and have a window open for each card to get a better look at the differences between what each one is running at. |

You're using an ancient version of XOC. Upgrade to the latest version(6.2.7) and try again. I have no issues with individually controlling similar GPUs with the newest version. |

I have many EVGA GPUs but I find that MSI Afterburner works better (for me) than the XOC software. I had problems with XOC and have had none at all with Afterburner. Afterburner works seamlessly with any brand GPU. All GPUs can be set separately. In addition use TThrottle in combination with BoincTasks to monitor GPU and CPU temps remotely. HWiNFO64 (and GPU-Z for that matter) can also pass sensor temps to TThrottle so you can monitor whatever sensors you like. |
