When using the boincstats account manager, requesting the gpugrid project causes ps3grid to be assigned to the host. Is is not possible to change the url to gpugrid.net unless I detach from the account manager. I posted about the problem on their forum. It would appear (this is just a guess) that there are two projects they need to manage, not just one. ie: they need to have both ps3grid and gpugrid I would think. here are the error messages that I got after requesting that boincstats manage gpugrid.net GPUGRID 10/31/2008 7:14:01 PM Message from server: Full-atom molecular dynamics for Cell processor is not available for your type of computer. GPUGRID 10/31/2008 7:14:01 PM Message from server: Full-atom molecular dynamics for Cell processor is not available for your type of computer. It sounds like in another thread that this occurs when no GPU work is available. The specific mention of the Cell processor indicates that work is available for the PS3, but won't be sent to you since it can't run on the GPU. It appears this issue generally resolves itself in short order. Try to click "Update" or "Reset Project" for GPUGrid and see if it speeds up the process. I've not had any issues downloading work, but obviously from the link below it happens occasionally. http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=440 You didn't mention what type of graphics card you have, but it should be identified as something like: 10/31/2008 9:40:10 PM||CUDA devices found 10/31/2008 9:40:10 PM||Coprocessor: GeForce 8800 GT (2) Double-check it will run GPUGrid if the above ideas do not work. http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=316 |

New problem - all my workunits are reporting computation error. This happened when I followed the instructions and detached from the account manager and then manually attached to www.gpugrid.net. All work units were terminaintg within seconds giving a computation error. I also saw a similar message about getting cell data. I have stopped taking new work units as it appears to be a waste of time. My gpu is a 9800gtx+ and my first work unit completed and gave the 2000+ credits. All subsequent failed with either Cell Processor expected or computation error. looking at http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?userid=8911 you can see there over just 2 minutes there were about 6-7 work units that terminate due to computation error. This was after just attaching to www.gpugrid.net I did not get computation errors when I was erronously (?) attached to ps3grid.net by the boincstats server. something is FUBAR. |

Don't reset or detach. As soon as you detach or reset then any wu's in your cache will be trashed! |

If your are using BAM, contact them to update the url. Having the wrong url causes no harmful problem other than a bunch of error messages. |

I still have hosts connecting to the wrong url at Cosmology over a year now with no side effect ;) It is meant as a temporary measure. The only bad thing is it puts out an extra requests each time you communicate with project to get the correct url, wasting a little bit of bandwidth and cpu time from your connection, the internet and the project server. At some point if the project shuts down the url redirect, you will not get work. You should change to the correct url as soon as you can. *set no new work for the proejct *wait for all work to complete and report. *on projects tab, select project and update. *on task tab, make sure no tasks for project are listed. If any are listed as ready to report, update to clear them, otherwise you will loose credit in next step. If any are running the server will mark them as over, you will also loose credit. *detach *attach to correct url |
