I too am having endless downloads . not restarting and 3 lines of info trying to come down the pipe . I just retried them and one stopped and one is very slow

For that 3 week period as you have mentioned the doctors had not given as much work, thus a large percentage of the network has gone without work. This all changed a few days ago. Barnase Barstar system simulations have been rolled out recently (and a lot of them) and new 100ns ubiquitin simulations will be released soon. I understand there is a problem with the downloads and they are having extreme difficulty trying to diagnose this but, once you get a WU you should be set for a long time.
