Could someone please tell me why I can't get new tasks? The BOINC data directory properties shows 9 GB used and 104 GB free. In your Boinc Manager Window click options, then computer preferences, then click the disk and memory tab. Under your "Disk" settings, which items have a check and what are your values for the checked items? |

Use no more than 100 GB is the only one checked. I figured it will never get anywhere near that full. |

Well I was wrong about never filling up the BOINC folder. I found out how to fix the problem, though I don't know if I fully understand why I was originally unable to get accurate information to diagnose it. I'm sure it probably stems from my lack of expertise in Linux though. I had originally opened Nautilus from Cairo-Dock, right-clicked on the BOINC folder and chosen properties. That informed me that there was 9 GB used and 100 + GB free space. However, when I thought to open Nautilus using 'gksudo nautilus' in a terminal I got different results and was able to pinpoint the problem. I don't understand why it should make any difference but it seemed that it did. It turned out that the climateprediction.net folder in my BOINC folder was full of 100 + GB of old and crashed work units. That was preventing downloads of any other project's tasks too. I didn't relish the prospect of hunting down the active work units in that bunch and saving them since I'm still trying to catch up on sleep I lost Sunday night while visiting the ER of my local hospital, so I just reset the project and now everything is working again. Cheers |

Climate Prediction strikes again :-) Besides, there's no global warming. Trump said so. So did Bush. And it was cool here today ;-) |

BUT, I convinced David that this was a problem, and he fixed BOINC such that "Reset" deletes the files anyway, if they are in the project folder, even if the project had "lost track of them". I had about 24 GB of files from that project, and wanted them cleaned up, just like your situation. So, essentially ... "Reset" only worked for you, because I made David fix it :) |

I don't understand why it should make any difference but it seemed that it did. That is because of linux version of boinc runs as "boinc" user. This simple security mechanism protects your own and system files from malicious or hacked boinc application. :) Not too long ago, a "Reset" on ClimatePrediction wouldn't clean out the files, because the project had "lost track of them", so BOINC wouldn't delete them. In that case do disk usage stats in "Disk" tab in the manager show with or without the lost files?

In that case do disk usage stats in "Disk" tab in the manager show with or without the lost files? I believe the "disk usage" stats for a project, available on the Disk tab and in Project Properties ... DO (and did) include the files the project didn't directly reference. But now, BOINC can remove those files on a "Reset" of the project. |
