I'd wait a short time until they release the new app and get a 1070 or 1060. Aren't those cards 10.5 inches though? |

I don't know how available it is right now, but Gigabyte has a mini-ITX 1070. http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5923#kf I'm sure there will be others as the ITX form factor is very popular these days. I don't know how available it is right now, but Gigabyte has a mini-ITX 1070. My gosh, that is awesome! Minigtx 1070's and I see there will probably be a mini 1080. Truly amazing. Thank you for informing me about this. I definitely will keep a sharp eye out for them! does anybody know if there will be an announcement when gpugrid will work with the 1070 and 1080? |

I don't know how available it is right now, but Gigabyte has a mini-ITX 1070. Be advised buying such cards, as they have axial fan type cooling, that is they are emitting almost all the heat inside the case. So these cards can heat up a Mini-ITX case in no time. |

I don't know how available it is right now, but Gigabyte has a mini-ITX 1070. Ah, how about if I leave my side case open? I do right now anyways. |

Would any of you personally recommend I use this card on here since it takes about 1 day and 5-6 hours? I don't mind tasks that are longer, but this long? I love biology, but I feel like this card is using more power and resources than things it's actually achieving. I'm not sure... I'm just having different views on some things now with my gpu. Hope you all understand what I'm seeing. |

Of course it misses the 1 day bonus, but it's still fairly efficient power-wise. Your energy usage is less than many of the cards that finish a WU in 12 hours or less. |

That 350 Watt PSU might not be up to much. The potential 110W from your GTX650Ti + 74W CPU (which is powerful enough) + ~50W from other components is probably all you want to be pulling through it. Even the 145W TDP of a GTX970 might be too much, remembering that it's an old, used PSU for a midi tower. If I'm ever working with an older system like that I open the PSU and blow any dirt out of it with an air compressor (if it's needed and it usually is). I suggest biding your time, waiting for a GTX1060 to be released and the ACEMD app updated to work here. The Pascal's (GTX1080 an GTX1070) don't yet work here. The GTX1070 has a TDP of 150W and the GTX1060 will probably be ~120W. The GTX1060 will likely be released soon and match a GTX970 for throughput at GPUGrid, whenever a new app is built. So the 1060 should use less electric than a 970, should do as much work, and might even cost a bit less too. Heard on the rumour mill there might be cheaper 3GB 1060 option that isn't Sli capable, but Sli is not needed for here and not useful in a midi case. Thanks all, I see now. I have a 600 watt psu though that I replaced with my 350 watt, but that shouldn't affect power consumption negatively right? |

I see now. I have a 600 watt psu though that I replaced with my 350 watt, but that shouldn't affect power consumption negatively right? Probably not. If your 350W was stock it was probably very inefficient. If the new PS is ECO rated such as bronze, silver, gold, or platinum it should be much more efficient and your energy consumption should go down. As with any other component it's good to read reviews when you purchase a new PS. |

Thanks, yeah I've had it for a while, it's a corsair cx 600m. I never even used the 350 watt with my gpu though because I didn't want to take a risk, should've made it a bit more clear haha. Good news is that I'm getting another pc today but this one is a lower end one. Do gtx 460's still work? I see it's under no longer working but it says "needs cc 3.0, so if I get that will it work? They are the only other gpu's I have sadly. If they don't work I'll just save for a new one I guess, thanks. |

Your Corsair is decently energy efficient: 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified. The GTX 460 is Fermi class and it's very inefficient by todays standards. |

Hmmm, as a temporary gpu for my 2nd pc, should I buy a gtx 650ti boost like my current one? I wouldn't bother getting a temp usually but they sell them for a pretty good deal on ebay (less than 100 dollars, or early 100's) What do you think? And alright, I'll have to think of something else to do with my 460 :( |

Wait... I don't think that would work, I'd need an itx gpu for my 2nd pc case.. |

Buying a much older GPU isn't advisable. I wouldn't buy anything before the GTX900 series even if it was really, really cheap; the running costs compared to the performance is so poor. See what sort of GTX1060's turn up and there will eventually be a GTX1050 or similar. Anything with a Pascal architecture should be good for a few years (when there's a working app). My opinion: wait for a GTX10xx GPU that fits your needs. |

Alright, sounds like a plan, thanks all. If you all don't mind, I'd like to do some projects on PrimeGrid too, so I won't be on here as much, but I'm not leaving though. |
