hello all, I have an older alienware laptop and the model is an m14x r1 it has a gtx 555m gpu. why is it that when I go to do a project, that it says 5 days to complete? I would not mind except for the fact that it passes the deadline. Are there any ways that I can extend the deadline or make it less than 5 days? Thanks. I just find this really weird since I have an old gtx 460 that can process faster than this.. Cruncher/Learner in progress. |

Your GT555M has only 144 cores which means it is too slow for this project and yes, a GTX460 would beat it hands down. |

I have an older alienware laptop and the model is an m14x r1Because this GPU's computing capability is this low. I would not mind except for the fact that it passes the deadline. Are there any ways that I can extend the deadline or make it less than 5 days? No, there isn't. I just find this really weird since I have an old gtx 460 that can process faster than this..The "X" marks the top-end cards in NVidia's naming conventions, so you are comparing a mid mid-range mobile GPU to a low top-end desktop GPU. Generally desktop GPUs can be faster because they have higher TDP limits than mobile GPUs. If you compare their specifications (GTX 460 vs GT 555m) it is quite clear, why the GTX 460 is faster: GTX 460 GT 555m CUDA cores 336 144 Graphics clock 675 MHz up to 753 MHz Processor clock 1350 MHz up to 1506 MHz Texture Fill Rate 37.8 up to 16.2 Billion/sec |

ah, alright. I figured it wouldn't be fixable but I thought I'd ask just in case. Thanks everyone. |

Hi Logan Carr PrimeGrid Has work for small & older GPU's. I think you will be happy. Generalized Fermat Prime Search n=15 (GFN-15) Recent average GPU time: 0:05:02 Generalized Fermat Prime Search n=16 (GFN-16) Recent average GPU time: 0:06:18 Generalized Fermat Prime Search n=17 (GFN-17-Low) Recent average GPU time: 0:21:05 you can find them in( Subproject ) |

After the general selection at the top of the preferences page for PrimeGrid you select GPU and then you also need to scroll down and select each specific subproject you would like to run. Within each of the Generalized Fermat Prime Search subprojects there are three checkboxes - CPU, NVidia GPU, and AMD/ATI GPU - please check the NVidia box. For more help on running PrimeGrid please post on the forums on that site (I crunch for both so I'll likely see you over there) - happy prime hunting! Thanks - Steve |
