BOINC started and agrees that 362.00 is installed. I'm going to let it run a while before I do much more. In case you're wondering, the GTX 560 in that computer is still inadequate for GPUGRID. So is the GT 440 in my other desktop. By the way, using safe mode with command prompt, I was able to find some directories related to driver versions older than 362.00, but none that appeared to be related to 362.00 or more recent. Where on the hard drive should I look to find the CURRENTLY INSTALLED Nvidia driver? |

BOINC started and agrees that 362.00 is installed. I'm going to let it run a while before I do much more. What I would do at this point: 1) Uninstall your NVidia drivers 2) DL and run Display Driver Uninstaller - http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html 3) Reinstall V362.00 Since we know that v365.** has issues, hopefully NVidia will release a fixed version that works with Vista. Not that I recommend running Vista... BTW, feel free to delete all those old NV driver directories under C:\NVIDIA\Display Driver NVidia just lets them pile up and they're both useless and huge. |

Good to hear you made some positive progress Robert. When you ran Setup Repair it automatically ran command line tools such as FIXMBR and FIXBOOT and that allowed the system to startup correctly. I suggest you do some backups before doing anything else. Sounds like the 362 driver is installed but if in doubt reinstall it again as suggested. I would delete the 365.19 download, any of it's extracted files, and make sure automatic updates are off, just in case it tries to install the same driver again. On W10 the NVidia folder is, C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation On Vista temporary locations where NVidia files are extracted/stored are, c:\nvidia and C:\users\username\AppData\Local\Temp or windows\temp The drivers are installed into the windows\system32 directory, C:\Windows\System32\drivers FAQ's HOW TO: - Opt out of Beta Tests - Ask for Help |

Beyond, the 362.00 folder now appears there; it didn't under safe mode with command prompt. skgiven, backups to what? My disk server no longer works, and backups to DVDs stopped working for me years ago. Setup Repair apparantly did the fix, but then told me that it had not been able to fix anything. C:\Windows\System32\drivers contains many files, none of which have names that make them look likely to be Nvidia drivers. Apparently, the program for creating restore points will create them only on the last drive you list as a place to put them, but the program for using restore points will ignore all those which aren't on the C: drive. So if you list more than one drive as places to put them, don't expect them to work. |

skgiven, backups to what? Firstly what do you want to backup? Your files, the system or just create restore points and a last known good configuration? If your i7-2600 system is on the same network, you could create a shared folder there and backup (some things) to it, or a USB stick/external drive, or even the cloud (possibly) - totally depends what you want/need to backup, but if the system is any use and you want to keep it as is then you should be backing up something IMO. Setup Repair apparantly did the fix, but then told me that it had not been able to fix anything. I know, I've been there, that's what it does automatically and not verbosely. It didn't perform a full repair, but would have fixed the MBR or boot settings. Maybe after that was fixed it didn't need to perform a full repair. C:\Windows\System32\drivers contains many files, none of which have names that make them look likely to be Nvidia drivers. The files will start with 'nv' and the 'File description' will tell you what they are, however if you have a working NVidia 362 driver then you don't want to delete them. For example,
nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, version...) nvraid.sys (NVIDIA nForce (TM) RAID Driver nvvad64v.sys (NVIDIA Virtual Audio Driver)
Apparently, the program for creating restore points will create them only on the last drive you list as a place to put them, but the program for using restore points will ignore all those which aren't on the C: drive. So if you list more than one drive as places to put them, don't expect them to work. Use the C drive for restore points. Backups are not restore points. You can backup the restore point. Normally full system (full metal) backups or just your files should be backed up to a second and preferably external/network drive (share). You might be able to extend C to a drive partition on a second disk (disk management), should that be needed and even if a restore point was on another drive (C became corrupt) you could copy the external backup to C (after repairing C). I'm not sure if you Want/Need to do any of that but it's an example of what I might do if I wanted to maintain the system. These are just a suggestions/potential advice. It's your system, so you can do what you want with it. FAQ's HOW TO: - Opt out of Beta Tests - Ask for Help |

I don't use that test software and I don't want to install it just to find out (it's not free, though there is a limited free version but that might come with a catch). Can't say if it's a problem with 368.22 or not. Could be a defected card or just a glitch/compatibility issue in the test software. If you can game and crunch successfully I would say the card is usable though. It might need better cooling/fan control, a reduced clock or voltage adjustment... If you don't overclock and get artefacts with games using 368.22 Beta and other drivers (WHQL) then it's more likely the issue is with the card, but I don't know it's history. If anyone tests it: it would be good to know whether the new driver restores the GPU-Grid performance to the level of 359.00. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

From now on one must also consider this: https://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=4341&nowrap=true#44190 Microsoft Windows XP/Windows XP 64-bit driver support for GeForce GPUs has been deprecated with driver branch R370_00 and onward. Driver 368.81 is the last driver to support Windows XP/Windows XP 64-bit. |

Thomas, you never tell us the one thing we care about: are these new drivers as fast at GPUGrid as 359.06? So far all the subsequent drivers are slower. Why not address that problem instead of some game? We've been asking about this for a LONG time. |

Hi Beyond, The purpose of this thread is solely to inform you that a new driver has been made available to NVIDIA users. I don't have time to check the performance of each driver or find out about it. As team founder, I have many things to manage on multiple BOINC projects but I'm sure someone can answer for me and certainly much better than me :) [CSF] Thomas H.V. Hi Thomas, For some reason or other I assumed that you're affiliated with the NVidia driver team. Not true? A problem is that people see this and assume that since it's posted on the forum these new drivers are good for GPUGrid. It causes problems for people. Here's an example from a few days ago: https://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=4364 I doubt if most here could care less about what games are improved. What we care about is running DC projects and specifically GPUGrid. Maybe I'm wrong. |
