I encountered a big problem with installing the latest NVIDIA driver - 361.43 - on my laptop ASUS

ASUS ROG G741JM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M (2048MB)

Windows 10 - 64 bits

Error message at startup : Kernel-Security-Check-Failure

Multiple problems at laptop startup
Trouble when browsing Google Chrome
BOINC Manager 7.6.9 no longer runs ! :(
I have uninstalled the driver 361.43 and reinstalled the old driver 359.06
No problem with the driver 359.06

Nvidia Yanks Problematic GeForce 364.47 Driver Update

Nvidia this week released a Game Ready driver (version 364.47) that was intended to deliver the best possible performance for Ubisoft's latest Tom Clancy title, The Division, but has since pulled it offline after reports of various problems.

364.51 drivers were released on Thursday, as a replacement/fix for the catastrophic installation issues in the 364.47 drivers.

HOWEVER...

I have noticed full-system-freezes with 364.51. So, for right now, I'd stay away from any R364 driver. I'm using 362.00, the last R361 driver, as a workaround.

A general advice to avoid this kind of problem:
It it ain't broke, don't fix it.
From GPUGrid's (or any GPU project's) point of view there's no point in updating the NVidia driver every time they put a new version (even a new major version) on their website. It won't make your GPU crunch faster. The GPUGrid app is built on CUDA 6.5, which is an older release (other projects use an even older release; the current one is 8.0). Perhaps the GPUGrid app will be updated in the future, and then we have to update the driver, but until then I would refrain from doing so. Even the latest game titles will work with older drivers, however there could be 5-15% better performance if the driver is optimized for that game.

I'm just updating this thread for that the volunteers to know that a new NVIDIA driver is available.
But it's true that it is not absolutely necessary to update systematically.

I run the latest everything. I consider it my job to find the bugs, so normal users don't suffer :-p

I have confirmed that today's 365.10 drivers do NOT fix the OpenCL problems -- PrimeGrid miscalculation and Poem@Home TDRs.

I'd recommend users to stick with 362.00, and projects to take action to prevent issuing OpenCL tasks to R364 users.

I have confirmed that the new DOOM 365.19 drivers do NOT fix the PrimeGrid OpenCL/CUDA miscalculations. They DO fix the POEM@Home OpenCL TDR/Crash problems.

I'd recommend users to stick with 362.00, and projects to take action to prevent issuing CUDA or OpenCL tasks to R364 users.

Note:
For both of these issues, I am the main user working with NVIDIA to solve them. And I'm told from my NVIDIA contacts that we can expect the miscalculation fix to land in the next driver, due later this month. So, maybe THEN I can finally upgrade to R364 :)

Thanks again for pointing this out. I have 14 - 750Ti and 1 - 670 GPUs running GPUGrid. (Seems that a couple of the more eliteest users here want to exclude these GPUs, however some of us don't have IT dept budgets to plunder.) Out of the thousands of WUs that these modest GPUs have completed successfully in the last 9 months (until very recently almost always in under 24 hours) there have been 3 "Errors while computing", all on one machine but not always on the same GPU. This last time I caught it. Turns out that I still had 364.47 drivers running on that box and sometimes when work was low here a SETI WU would run. The SETI cuda WUs were OK but the opencl_nvidia app sometimes can cause the GPUGrid WU to error. I also have AMD GPUs running opencl_ati Moo in a couple machines along with the GPUGrid NV GPU. Haven't any problems with that app.
