I'm new to BONIC and thus also to GPUGRID. I have two systems and set up BONIC and GPUGRID on both systems. One system (the first one I set up) has been getting tasks one right after the other for the last 2 days. The other one has yet to get anything from the scheduler. (The event log show requests both automatic and manual requests but the scheduler never sends anything.)

I logged into my account on both computers. Right now I only belong to GPUGRID.

Can someone, please, tell me how to get multiple systems running at the same time?

The GTX8800 on your second machine is too old to crunch GPUGRID work. You'd need to replace it with Fermi or later card (the GTX750Ti is an excellent card)

Two questions:

Shouldn't the second system be able to accept CPU work?

The second system is a Dell Precision 390 (Q6700 / 8GB) with a 500W PSU. What graphics card would you recommend for a 500W system?

Also I have second 390 with a 325W PSU and what is a good graphics card for a 325W PSU?

Two questions:

The second system is a Dell Precision 390 (Q6700 / 8GB) with a 500W PSU. What graphics card would you recommend for a 500W system?

Also I have second 390 with a 325W PSU and what is a good graphics card for a 325W PSU?

As Matt suggested, you may want to consider a GTX750Ti (~60 watts TDP). For price/performance/power consumption it may be your best choice for your systems.

I'm willing to shell out $$ for new hardware, but will it 100% sure fix the issue? I mean shouldn't it be downloading CPU work, too?


Is there a project I could join to check out the CPU work?

Hi Bertram. Welcome to GPUGrid!

The reason you are not receiving any CPU Work from GPUGrid right now is simply because there is none to send. You can view the available Work Unit types by checking the Server Status in the upper right hand corner of the page. Currently, the CPU Only App reads as empty.

There are a large number of other projects which would gladly use your CPU. Here's a list from the BOINC team with descriptions of many available projects.

Glad to have you on board. Please post any other questions you have. The GPUGrid forums are full of knowledgeable people.

WOW!!! Big difference between the two. GPU-Z shows I'm using 70% of my GTX970, while Microsoft's Systems Internal Processor Explorer shows 0.41%.

Anyone know why the Processor Explorer program is so far off. I've only been reading good stuff about the suite. Guess it has bugs or something . . .

I'm willing to shell out $$ for new hardware, but will it 100% sure fix the issue? I mean shouldn't it be downloading CPU work, too?

Not sure but 3rd party specific apps are usually better then generic apps. Gpu-z only does one thing, it let's you know about your gpu, if you want to know about your cpu then you get cpu-z.

Also, there are plenty of other projects to join, to keep your CPUs busy.

I'd suggest looking into BOINCstats website, for projects to join.

Maybe because on GPU page all engines selected to monitoring, while GPUGRID app use only one engine, so average displayed load very low.
Example:

If I choose all 8 engines to monitoring on my GTX660, average displayed load will be about 10%.

I wasn't looking there for the GPU load in Process Explorer, but in the "System Information" window (CTRL+I) and then on the GPU tab.

Can you, please, explain how GPU engines work? MS-PE reports 10 engines (0 - 9). Selecting all 10 raises the GPU load from .4% to 7 - 9%

Originally Engine 0 was the only one selected. Engine 1 around 65% +/- 2% or so. The other engines are empty (0%). How does Windows and other applications use the GPU, its engines, he CDU (is that the correct name), etc?

Oh, BTW, at the same time Engine 1 is at 65%, Engine 0 is at .5%, GPU-Z is reporting 57%. Still don't see how GPU-Z and PE look at same system and report different numbers . . .

Unfortunately, I don't know. I'm not GPU geek, and don't know subtleties of NVIDIA GPU architecture and what is the "engine" in the terminology of Sysinternals Process Explorer.
For example my GTX660(GK106) have 3 GPC (Graphics Processing Cluster) and total 5 SMX (Stream Multiprocessor).

None of these parameters are correlated with the number of "engines" on GPU tab.
But I noticed that the load on Engine 1 is close in meaning to the load displayed in the GPU-Z. So I usually keep tracking load of GPU specifying only Engine 1.

Perhaps other forum members will be able to tell something useful on the subject.

If you are looking for a utility to monitor GPU vitals/performance, I'd recommend GPU-Z, instead of Process Explorer.
