Are there any plans of supporting integrated GPUs in the future? They are becoming quite powerful recently, and most of us running intel processors are stuck with them. |

Are there any plans of supporting integrated GPUs in the future? They are becoming quite powerful recently, and most of us running intel processors are stuck with them. Whatever the AMD GPUs can run via OpenCL can possibly also run on Intel GPUs, if there are not show-stopping driver bugs. Sicne the current beta AMD app uses the GPU as co-processor for the CPU, the usual "GPU-Grid can only make good use of very fast GPUs" may not apply. Actually, the integrated GPUs could have advantages over external ones if shared memory and quick communication between them and the CPU can be exploited. The AMD application will work on AMD CPUs with iGPUs. Intel iGPUs are not supported, and are unlikely to be any time soon. They're not at all good for compute. Matt |

Does that mean, that in the near future the Linux users see an advantage over the win users? One would have to program explicitly to use the HSA features. And tey woudln't apply to discrete GPUs, which are surely providing the most AMD throughput. I don't expect Matt to specialize to much in AMD iGPUs. Regarding the Linux advantage: they're usually faster at adapting new technologies (if there are enough knowledgable people who care), but if it starts to matter Win will also get those features. So I wouldn'T expect this to provide any significant advantage to Linux. Unless you start to write your own HSA enabled program today ;) Matt wrote: They're not at all good for compute. They're working nicely at Einstein@Home. Apart from the point where Intel broke the driver and it took them over hald a year to fix it (not sure if they succeeded, actually). In quote a few OpenCL benchmarks the Intel GPUs achieve respectable scores compared to AMDs iGPUs, though. And there are many of them. If the AMD iGPUs are of any interest for you, taking a closer look at the Intels might be worth the time.. although supporting two more platforms (AMD & Intel) really sounds like a nightmare for a small team.
