Hi all!

Unfortunaly one of my gpugrid 570s died yesterday :(
It only makes a high freq noise without picture and windows detection (palit gtx570). So i think theres something wrong with the power cuircuit. But dont know how to repair or measure out such things. A wonder i detected that so fast because i didnt check the systems in the new year until now O.o
The funniest, it was the card with the best cooling system...lol..the much hotter cards run like a charm. But ok.

So, because that is one of the dual gpu setups i think about to run a new generation 7xx or 9xx card with the remaining 570. Are there any known problems with that on xp32, driver 335.28 and PCIe1 x16 (the 570 will remain in its pcie1 x4 slot)? I know that all since 6xx has need for more pcie bandwith because the more interaction with the system or so, than i would look for another used 5xx card because changing the whole system is not an option for now. When it has only a little impact then it doenst matter to me and i will buy a new one. Or can i buy what i want within my personal parameter (not expensive and not more power need than the 570)?

I have no experience with two generations of nVidia cards, but I do have infos regarding different generations of AMD cards.
Hands off!
In the best case you have a poor performance on the newer card. In worst case situations, especially when switching between tasks as setup in BM, apps may crash or produce bad results.
I have rearranged all my systems to have either different types of gpu's or same generation of same type of gpu's.

Hi. I have tested many years ago gts 260 + gtx 470 on same rig. Wus on gtx 470 worked fine but 260 failed them and reason is unknown.

But...you can try. If machine working fine there is no broblems. If wu s failing, you know what to do.

I have one rig with GTX 580 and GTX 680 and another with GTX 980 and GTX 680.
Both are working fine with no errors.

Speed loss compared to what?
If you are talking about an old motherboard, CPU, HDD and DDR2 vs a new-ish system then the considerations extend well beyond the PCIE bus speeds. In my experience DDR2 vs DDR3 = 10% loss in itself, but that was some time ago (different apps).

I would probably just get a new motherboard, CPU, RAM and take it from there.

WRT PCIE, basically, PCIE1 X16 = PCIE2 X8 = PCIE3 X4, so it should work, but the bigger the card the greater the loss.

BTW. You may still be able to sell your old (broken) 570, and get something for it, but make sure you get the postage right!

Speedloss i though like it runs not on 100% like now, or it runs on 100% but it needs 105% of the time compared to its processingpower. Because on the old 2-5xx cards there was not really a big impact using it even on pcie1.0 x4 but with 6xx that changed what i remember right about the discussions years ago with the release of 660 and so on. I have the possibility to get a gainward 570 for 70 euro, hope that works and then i will use that as sparepart because the cheapest cards with 750 cost about 140euro in my local stores and i dont think it is twice as fast like a 570 for that price on an old system. I was bit shocked that i dont get anything really reliable after such an old card like the 570. the needed electricity power of the card is not relevant for me. Because this win would definite go to the 750 ;)

The GTX750Ti would quickly pay for itself in electricity cost. If you're not paying this yourself.. well, someone is, right? Or is it that much cheaper in Austria than in Germany? (don't worry if you don't want to answer this - it's your business, for sure)

Using xp32 and driver 335.28 would pose a problem for GTX9x0 GPUs, as these were introduced around 343 or so. The 750 is 1 year old by now, so could work with that one. I don't know the newest driver you can get for XP32, but that's going to be a limit for new GPUs soon.

The PCIe 1 16x would be an unpleasant limit for e.g. a Titan Z. But the slower the card, the less it limits. And as Matt said, GPU-Grid ACEMD is not particularly bandwidth hungry. So a GTX750Ti would definitely be fine, about as fine as a GTX570.
