I have a nvidia 650 that I tried to use , it ran with a q6600 ok but I put it in an older box with a 3 ghz hyperthread Intel and she does not have the horsepower needed for the project . will the cpu drive a more powerful graphics card ? |

I am presently using a GTX 660 on an E8300 dual-core (2.83 GHz) under Win7 64-bit. It uses less than half of a single core, leaving enough for web browsing and other work. I don't think the CPU is your problem. |

I think you need to update your driver. http://boincstats.com/signature/-1/user/189253/sig.png |

The CPU should be fine. Try updating the NV drivers on both your PCs. The drivers on the 650 machine in particular are VERY old: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us |

Sounds like an Intel Pentium 4 630 (a 90nm single 3GHz core with HT from 2005). While it might struggle as its limited to 2MB L2, an 800MHz bus, may be DDR (1) and might only be on a PCIE1.1-X4 capable motherboard, it's not getting work because you don't have a recent enough driver. You have 307.74. - As Beyond & Dave said, try a clean install of the latest drivers. If you didn't run anything else (CPU work) you should still be able to support a GTX650, but for sure trying to crunch CPU tasks on the same system would not work well. PS. The first 65nm B3 Q6600 (105W TDP) is from 2007, had 8MB L2 a 1066MHz FSB, 4 true cores and supported DDR2. Newer G0 versions had a 95W TDP and could OC better. An E8300 is from 2008 (6MB L2, 45nm, 1333MHz FSB and DDR2 if not DDR3). FAQ's HOW TO: - Opt out of Beta Tests - Ask for Help |
