Hello I run a gtx770 & gtx780 under win XP Pro 64. I have tried several times to update to new 344 driver. Each time post restart and I start Boinc it shows no usable GPUs. I cant figure where I went wrong. I have removed the old driver via " add or remove progames" and also "clean" install.I even tried removeing boinc b4 updating the driver then re install but still no GPUs found. Any suggestions would be greatly app. THANX,Robert EDIT: I should add I have done many driver updates b4 with no problems.I used the same methods i did b4 but now the NO GPUs thing. When I reinstall the old driver all is well again. |

I had the same problem on a 6950 yesterday, fixed it by installing an old driver, then removing it and all the AMD software (including their sound stuff), then installing the new driver with all the bells and whistles (everything included on the driver install exe). I imagine you should try something of the same on the nvidia one, removing all the nvidia extras as well, and then restarting, then installing the new drivers with all the nvidia extras, then restarting, then starting up BOINC.

Please post the first 30~35 lines (those lines which have the same time & date at startup) of your BOINC manager's event log. |

This is very strange. The only thing comes to my mind is that the "Administrator" account does not have enough privileges to use the GPU. Are you using this PC through Remote Desktop? RDP disconnects the console resources (for example the GPU) from the user (and from the applications the user runs). If you want to manage a PC remotely, you should use 3rd party tools for that (VNC, TeamViewer, LogMeIn...) which copy the contents of the screen. |

Okay the long version (sorry but maybe its in the details). When I first made this box a dual boot in Feb. (sep SSDs WIN7Ult / WINXP64) I had many XP crashes where I could not recover the XP os so after one of the reinstalls I cloned the drive with XP on to another ssd I had and saved as a back up. I only had to use it once back in early march and all has been well. I performed several GPU driver updates since with no prob. Then the trying to upgrade to 344 and up cropped the no GPUs thing. So today I swapped out the XP ssd drive installed the 344 driver started BOINC and GPUs showed correctly. I checked all my settings and noticed I did not have SWAN_SYNC 0 so added. I the attached E@H and GPU tasks all failed <4 sec. So added GPUGRID to try and my 4 tasks failed as well.So I removed the swansync Closed and restarted BOINC and NO USABLE GPUs again. I have reinstalled the 377 driver and back to crunching. Maybe the tasks that errored out today have a clue? Wish I was more computer skilled but I learn as I go. I will try again next few days hopfully use some ideas from you fine folks. Thanks in advance for your time and patience. |
