I stumbled over an ad for “gridcoins” over at BOINCStats (http://www.gridcoin.us/). I was wondering if somebody has heard about it and used it.

I tried, cpu projects only though, and it is interesting, after getting someone to 'seed' me some credits I was able to earn some gridcoins, I earned about 7 US dollars worth over about a 30 day period. Then I upgraded the software, putting it on a new pc in the process, and changed the password for my wallet. After a reboot my wallet would NOT accept my new password and wanted the old one instead, since it was a 'generated' one and not one I had picked those gridcoins are gone and never coming back for me. I left at that point. A gridcoin is worth a very small fraction of a bitcoin, there are conversion charts on the net.

Essentially GridCoin is a Team you join and they pay you to stay on their Team. I have been on one Boinc Team almost since the beginning and wasn't going to switch my high powered crunchers to GridCoin and leave my regular Team, so my experience may not be equal to yours.
