title says it all, cheap, relatively powerful, spreads the interest to kids. Any future plans? Since Sony made the ps3 essentially a brick when users decided to crunch with it I'm guessing it won't happen for a long time if ever. Sony said you crunch you can never game again, since for most people it is a gaming system primarily they don't crunch anymore with them. Sony has not said that they are willing to revisit their decision for the ps4 so people are assuming it is still in effect. Are YOU willing to brick a ps4 to try it? |

As Mickey said. I don't know if you know but GPUGRID was originally PS3GRID. Until Sony ruined it and we moved to GPUs |

Wish I had known about this project at the time. When Sony was supporting crunching through "Life with Playstation" I was leaving my PS3 crunching everyday while I was at work (crunching for Folding@Home if I remember correctly). I never knew there were other opportunities available. I don't know if I'll ever buy another console gaming machine, but I do hope they allow crunching on their systems in the future. I'm not sure how it could bring them anything but good PR. |

It was only practical to use the PS3 because Sony allowed it to boot Linux. Not so the PS4 - to deploy any software on that we'd have to enter into the same sort of relationship that games developers have, which just isn't practical for us. More to the point, though, is that the world has changed since PS3 days - PC GPUs are much better now than the hardware in the PS4. Matt |

We had a team member with a whole lab full of PS3 boxes that were used for crunching PS3Grid and vaious other custom science apps. Sony pulled the rug out from beneath everyones' feet without a care. A lot of us don't buy Sony products anymore. Remember also when Sony installed rootkits on everyone's PC that dared to insert a Sony music CD in the drive. When I was looking at Blu Ray players at Costco a couple years back the sales guy there mentioned that the Sony models report back to Sony whenever a burned DVD is played. Not a nice company. |

PC GPUs are much better now than the hardware in the PS4. Yes. The PS4 GPU is somnewhere between a HD7850 and HD7870, i.e. the venerable but mainstream Pitcairn chip. While the hardware is not impressive, it's an AMD GPU and hence would have to be used with OpenCL. Which would bring us to the same problem as with AMD desktop GPUs. I have some HD7850s crunching at other projects and they're a very capable GPU with low power usage. They just don't work here. Back slightly more on topic though I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Sony to do something either nice or ethical... |

Got going to happen, I'm afraid. Don't have the man-power, don't have the PS4 SDKs or access to distribution. Matt |

Got going to happen, I'm afraid. If they keep losing money like they are at the moment http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-17/sony-forecasts-wider-full-year-loss-on-smartphone-competition.html They won't be around for much longer |
