I have a result set that has been trying to upload for 35+ minutes. Certain portions of web site have been a bit sluggish to load. Same system does not appear to be showing problems downloading or using other sites. |

I also have trouble loading pages now and then. It's been really bad just now. also, i have noticed a workunit is in my list: This one: 938x-SANTI_MARwtcap310-12-32-RND8401_0 workunit: 5175148 When i look in my boincmanager log for the machine this was supposedly sent to, it simply isn't there! That makes me wonder, since it hasn't reported according to the website, and still appears in progress. it was sent to my machine february 16th around 15.31 GMT. That is 2 days ago now. Usually they take 12 hours, maybe 14 on that machine. Adding 1 hour for my local time, there's no entry for this WU name. The log was going back to february 15th, so I should have been able to see it. Is it lost, you think? Maybe I never actually received it, due to a maintenance downtime, which the boincmanager reported? Just a few minutes ago, I also had trouble downloading on another machine, while also uploading a result. The result upload also stalled, but appears to have gone through. In my log it shows this: tir 18 feb 2014 15:33:38 CET | GPUGRID | Temporarily failed upload of 195-GIANNI_ntl-1-4-RND6821_0_7: transient HTTP error A moment later it was gone, and appears to have uploaded. I wonder if mhhall and I have some troubles, or is it serverside? |

I have had the same problem and others have reported the same problem at this project as well as other projects. The problem can be on your computer, between your computer and the project server or on the server itself. I'm not going to explain all the possible reasons for why the upload fails. I'll try to explain why those results seem to disappear, where you can find them and what you can do about it. What happens is that your host finishes a task and attempts to upload the result but the upload fails any one of a number of reasons. Your host then waits for a few minutes and tries again. If it is unsuccessful then it waits for twice as long before trying again. Every time it fails it waits for twice as long as before. So, for example, if the delay after the first failed attempt is say 3 minutes the next delay will be 6, then 12, then 24, 48, 96, 192... etc. If you understand that then it's easy to see how after several (many?) failed tries your computer might be waiting for 24 hours before the next attempt. It happens to almost everybody once in a while at this project as well as others. (Actually the delay might not double, it might be a factor of only 1.5, I forget exactly what the multiplier is.) What you can do is this... Open BOINC manager in Advanced View and click the Transfers tab where you see a list of files being transferred (uploaded or downloaded). They can be in progress, failed and scheduled for a retry or possibly other states. If you see one that failed and is scheduled for a retry you should also see a countdown timer that shows the number of minutes/hours until the next attempt. You can select that task then click the "retry now" button. If the problem that caused the previous upload attempt to fail has been fixed the transfer should proceed. If it doesn't proceed then you know there is still some problem blocking the upload. Again, that problem could be on your computer, between your computer and the server or on the server itself. Some server side maintenance was performed, and there might be more. I also experienced minor upload issues, but they resolved themselves without any intervention (the uploads backed off and then worked). FAQ's HOW TO: - Opt out of Beta Tests - Ask for Help |
