For some weeks i get this notice from the server : An NVIDIA GPU is required to run tasks for this project.
I have Nvidia 660 Ti, newest version fo the client, newest Nvidia Drivers, Windows 7.
Why the client does not identify my card ?

Try How to install NVIDIA drives on Windows from the FAQ section of the forum.

It is more helpful if you state the version number of your drivers and BOINC rather than just saying "the latest". What you think is "the latest" might not be what everybody else thinks is the latest.

Did you try rebooting your computer after installing the drivers?

"Warning: On Windows do not install BOINC in Protected Access Execution (PAE) mode aka service mode (6.4.5 - 7.0.28) or Service Install mode (7.0.64 and above). If you do, BOINC will not be able to detect or use your GPU. "

Service install or accessing the machine via remote desktop are the 2 top reasons for the GPU not being detected.

thank you all, i reinstalled the boinc client, switched off service install, and it works !

Just a "me too" here. I have Win 8.1 with latest AMD beta drivers running on a XFX R9 290 GPU.

I uninstalled to make sure I was not in "Service Mode" and I am not..No remote access that I know of...

BOINC IS using my card (verified with GPU monitoring programs) and Einstein@home says it is using 1 ATI card. GPUGRID is the one the message is about...

Anything I'm missing?

Can't use AMD cards, only NVidia cards can be used here.

And that's a pity.....I could greatly increase my contribution to this research if AMD cards could be used. :(

Pity AMD doesn't support CUDA. They would sell lots of their excellent, well priced cards to GPUgrid crunchers.

That should work very well on Folding@home, if you want to do biomedical type research.

You might have read they were trying to port their application to OpenCL in a bid to support AMD but the port didn't work out. I believe the explanation was that after so many years their app has become sort of married to the way CUDA does things so it doesn't translate well to OpenCL.

You can find projects that support AMD by going through the list of projects in Boinc manager's "Add project wizard". If you highlight a project you'll see a number of tiny icons that tell you which platforms it supports. There are icons for Windows, OSX, Linux, AMD, NVIDIA and I think ARM now too.

Kind of. It was more like "being slow and unstable". By now things have undoubtly improved, but it will again take significant effort to port the new app over and test & debug it (there will be new errors in OpenCL compared to CUDA, depending on GPU, driver and OS). And afterwards support 2 different code-paths, as the CUDA version will surely run better on nVidias.

Well.. that's just like nVidia wants it, and until OpenCL gets more complex stuff handled (e.g. the simple Collatz program is fine) I don't see this changing.
