Since Max tasks goes up by 1 every time you return a Valid Result surely you are only feeding machines that continually error by setting it at a base of 30.

If you set it to less than 10 and descending to 1 and then to less than 1 a day you'd starve these machines and maybe even draw attention of owners.

You could implement this after a machine has continually erred for 7 days
