If you are using Linux and have GTX780s, you should upgrade the driver to 319.60 to improve stability.

Are they still slow as the other 319's? I can remember to see about twice longer runtimes than with 314 etc. Also happens at Einstein, where the 326 betas (or so) didn't fix it yet.

I've never seen any performance problems with 319s. Got a specific example?

Einstein's low power usage might be triggering a GPU downclock with the 319 drivers, especially on a GK110 card. Einstein also use older CUDA code...

I dont use einstein anymore for that exact reason skgiven. Theyre about as unoptimized as can be for newer cards. Much better to use AMD there now.

MJH, have you noticed that the 331.40 drivers for Windows has fixed the access violation bug for 110s? Might be worthy of a news post.

I'm confused.. I quickly examined the first 2 pages of GPUs and number crunching, but almost nothing hinted at linux driver problems. There's one example there, where downgrading fixed the problem, but there's also a comment "319.17 will work if installed with a properly updated Xorg and kernel. There are many issues with installing it manually" and several success reports.

I vaguely remember reading several other posts where downgrading fixed the performance problems the users were seeing.. but that's difficult to find now. the issue is certainly not as general as I had in memory, as several positive results in that thread prove.

@SK & 5Pot: Einstein actually evaluates the newer CUDA versions as they appear, but so far bugs & errors have prevented them to use anything newer than 3.2. They've got a comparably complex automatic build system for different platforms, which appears to be a challange. Apart from their scientific app, of course.

Sounds like Einstein needs to modernize their app - no mean feat.

It's not just as handy installing the latest drivers on Linux - usually best to stick to the flavored drivers.

On Linux especially, 'if it's not broken, don't try to fix it', because you will probably mess it up good and proper. That said, if it doesn't work you have no choice even if it means fixing the mess you make. The reward is of course the constant 11% performance increase over everything since XP.
