I'm purchasing a new desktop on Dell. My only options for graphics cards are AMD Radeon HD 7570 1GB GDDR5 (which is not supported by GPU Grid) and a $50 upgrade to the following for NVIDIA:

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 645 1.0GB GDDR5

I do not see this card listed in either the "most recommended" or the "recommended" lists.

Will this work with GPUGrid? I searched the forums & could not find any reference to the card.

This is an OEM card. You can find its specifications here.

I'm pretty sure it should work with GPUGRID, although it doesn't appear in the list of CUDA GPUs by Nvidia. Others may be able to shed more light on this, e.g. skgiven.

Performance-wise, I tried to compare its specs with those of the GTX 650, since they appear to be next to each other, at least judging by their names. They don't compare in a straightforward way, however. While the 645 has more CUDA cores, its memory bandwidth is significantly lower than the 650's. Have a look yourself.

Since memory bandwidth appears to have significance for GPUGRID, I expect the 650 to perform better. The 645 should not be far behind though.

Just my 2c, I hope I'm not wrong. Please wait for more feedback before you make your purchase!

It's an OEM card and was only released 6weeks ago, but it should work.

People considering these entry level cards should not go by the name for performance - the GeForce GTX 645 (Apr. 2013) for example should (in theory) outperform a GeForce GTX 650 (Sep 2012), and the GeForce GT 630 Rev. 2 (2 weeks old) should outperform last years GT 640's (of which there are 5, and one is GF not GK). The GTX645's memory clock is a bit low though, especially for 576shaders and a 128bus.

The 25W TDP of a GeForce GT 630 Rev. 2 might make it a sweet little cruncher for other projects, but it wouldn't be able to finish a long run in <1day (perhaps 2). It's also PCIE2.0X8, which is a bit odd for a GK600.

I'm still hoping for a 1152:96:32 non-OEM version to arrive...
...seems I will be getting what I want :) in the form of a GTX760

Thank you both for your replies! I am going forward with the purchase and hope it works out fairly well on GPUGrid. I haven't been able to participate here for a while.

The GTX645 has a bit more raw horse power than the GTX650, so it will be faster unless memory bandwidth liimits the card. But it shouldn't be that bad, especially since I'd say the GTX650 has more bandwidth than needs (whereas GT640, otherwise the same chip, has too few).

A nice advantage of the GTX645 is the lower GPU clock: it will have more OC headroom and run more efficiently (lower stock voltage) if not pushed too hard.
