http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/geforce_gk110_based_consumer_graphics_called_geforce_titan.html A bit pricy, but it should be 50% faster than GTX680. gdf |

Can this card be used in GPUGRID, or will it be similar to the other tesla GPU's where the performance isn't that spectacular for the price of it? |

We're confident these cards will run on GPUGRID. Whether or not it is something you want to invest in, you will have to decide cost/performance benefit for your situation. As said, they will be ~50% faster than the 680s. |

As said, they will be ~50% faster than the 680s. This is an estimation. Being the same gpu but larger. gdf |

NVidia recently released a GK104 based Quadro K5000 with 1536 CUDA Cores 4GB (122W), retailing for around $1800. So I have my doubts that a GeForce Titan with 6GB and 2496 (GK110) CUDA cores would cost half that ($899). Even if it did a GTX690 would still be cheaper and faster. The 2496CUDA cores would need to bring something else to the game. Maybe they super-ultra-scale with turbo-boost, but I expect their performance for here would be similar to the Tesla's. The 2.1 Teraflops K5000 would mean it's performance here would probably be << GTX660Ti, and it would take a very long time to make up the difference in running costs (flops/Watt). Another generation of GPU would arrive before then. These Quadro and Tesla cards are very bespoke, designed for specific purposes, and the apps that run on them need to be supported and developed by niche software engineers. They sometimes require 'mini-drivers'. That said, many businesses use Quadro products and any recent Quadro's should work here. FAQ's HOW TO: - Opt out of Beta Tests - Ask for Help |

Sure, the Teslas and Quadros cost several tiems their equivalent consumer GPUs just for the software support, and minor features like ECC memory. However, the rumored Geforce Titan is a regular consumer GPU, so this doesn't apply. It's surely going give less throughput than a GTX690 or 2 GTX680, but at less physical space. If it's going to be more efficient: we can't tell yet. Heck, we don't even know its clock speeds yet! I don't think it's going to be popular here due to its high price, especially compared to GTX660Ti. However, it packs all its crunching power into a single GPU and can thus be unleashed onto a single task. That's good for huge WUs, short turn-around times and a long useful life of the card. If it's going to be enough to tempt many.. I'm sceptical. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

So far it's just speculation, and only a name more than what we were speculating 10months ago (GTX685 GK110). While a GeForce model might turn up, we could also/alternatively see a Quadro K6000 with better double precision capabilities; the Quadro 6000 is quite dated - it's basically a slow, fattened up GTX470. A 2304CUDA core GK110 could arrive too; with more than one SMX disabled. It's either that or bin them! FAQ's HOW TO: - Opt out of Beta Tests - Ask for Help |

Yes.. but a Quadro or Tesla is "just there", without much marketing hype and fanfare. And doesn't fit the rumored price point of 900$. I'm pretty sure it's a consumer GK110. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

Interesting point that this GPU is actually aimed at competing with Sony's new playstation rather than competing with AMD's ATI HD cards. Don't buy a console when you can stick a mid-range to high-end GPU into an existing computer and get a better gaming performance. http://www.techpowerup.com/179750/It-s-Sony-Not-AMD-in-GeForce-Titan-s-Crosshair.html FAQ's HOW TO: - Opt out of Beta Tests - Ask for Help |

Considering the new consoles are rumored to have around HD7800 - HD7700 GPUs, the PC wouldn't need need an uber-monster to trump them in horse power right now, even at moderate prices. That Geforce Titan should be significantly more expensive than a GTX680, so I don't see how it would be a compelling offering to anyone considering a 300$ console. That is.. if it's not a 700$ machine. The only real argument I can see here is marketing: look, we've got something new! And it's soo much better!", while stretching their arms wide to show how large that fish was they caught ages ago. There's some point, though, that it's not directly aimed at AMDs GPU. But that's merely because GTX680 competes just fine with HD7970, so they can easily sell another chip on top of this for healthy profits. Especially if they're making these chips anyway for the professional market. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |
