Hi all, I'm very interested in the NVidea GeForce GTX 280 card, is anyone running this card with GPUGRID and what is your average RAC? Are some of you already running the Geforce GTX 280 card in A SLI setup with 2, 3 or maybe 4 ;-) cards? Also I'm very interested in the CPU load while running GPUGRID, is a high performance (Quad core) CPU neccesary or is CPU performance irrelevant as all processing is done on the GPU's? Iw@n |

- currently there are still driver issues with the GTX 260/280, I don't know if anyone has them up and running - you have to disable SLI to run GPU-Grid on several cards - CPU load is one core per card, 100% - CPU performance should be irrelevant (within sane limits), as the CPU is only needed to organize the work, so to say, but that has to be done often (hence the 100% load) - I'd suspect that having fewer CPU cores than GPUs will impact performance MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

So there's no answer from 260/280 owners... How about noise while PS3GRID WUs are being processed? I want to by GT260 (not enough money for 280...), but I'm very interesting in questions above to. |

Hi all, I own one and LOVE IT! 26,000 seconds per task, 7 hours 20 minutes, 10k rac per day. I have a quad core 6600, and did'nt face any performance degratation while playing games. |

I own a GTX 280 in a Phenom Quad 9950 BE since 4 days and the card needs about 27,500 to 28,350 seconds (estimated time 7:45h) for one WU. The fan is loud, definitive the loudest fan on a card I ever had, but I can live with it ;). Here you can see the work of the card in the last days. http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?hostid=7785 Maybe there is also a turbo version available or you can OCed reach a time of 26,000 seconds, but my card does it not.

Kokomiko, if the card is too loud for you see my thread. I guess the S1 Rev 2 also fits the GTX 260/280. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

Sure, the fan choice is totally up to you and there are better ones than the Arctics. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

Sure, the fan choice is totally up to you and there are better ones than the Arctics. But I think, this can not work at the GTX280. It's a double slot card with a closed case and a radial fan.

Well, take a look at my card before I put the arctic on But the 260/280GTX are not on their compatibility list yet, I don't know if they don't fit or if it's just a matter of time (4800 series is compatible). MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

Well, take a look at my card before I put the arctic on Ok, I will check it. More in a week, 'cause I'm absent the next days.

Ok, I will check it. Nah, no reason to check anything. The point is just that the coolers are almost the same, but not quite. To mount the powerful S1 you'd have to remove the stock cooler anyway. And if the Arctic fits or not depends on the mounting holes of the card (and its height profile). If it's compatible than Arctic Cooling should tell us soon or could be asked. (big G ddidn't tell me much.. maybe I asked the wrong questions though) MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

Hi all, Thank you all for your answers / comments! 10k rac/day sounds very good to me but I'm very frightened about the produced noise by a stock GTX 280 card. At the moment I'm running a (non overclocked) Q6600 together with 2*PS3 24h/day in my livingroom, due to a very silent running Zalman fan (lowest speed) on the Q6600 I don't have any noise concerns so far. As I don't want to tweak too much at this moment I'll wait for the next generation of graphic cards for my PC, maybe I'll buy the 480 core GTX 400 when available ;-) |

If you're bothered with noise than a stock 280GTX is not for you. I did not see one in action yet, but it consumes a bit more power than my card and uses almost the same fan, so it's reasonable to expect similar behaviour. Take a look here for details. maybe I'll buy the 480 core GTX 400 when available ;-) This one won't be for you either. What you need is either a card with something like an Accelero S1 pre-mounted, plus fan(s), or maybe this new Asus Matrix thing, which is not yet available. This should allow you to set the fan speed to a comfortable level and subsequently turn down clocks and voltage until you're comfortable with the temperature. You give up on speed, but you can't have speed and silence at the same time.. without a really massive cooling solution. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |
