I have: a pristine Windows 7 Enterprise x64 install a new 550ti nVidia driver 296.1 Boinc 6.10.58 wxWidgets 2.8.10 I get the message: "An NVIDIA GPU is required to run tasks for this project". Any tips on how to have boinc/gpugrid recognize the 550ti? Thanks, Ken |

Probably you've installed your BOINC client to run the projects in protected application execution mode. In this case, the BOINC client runs as a system service, and has no access to the GPU (the operating system grants no access to the GPU). You should reinstall the BOINC client in 'normal' mode. |

It will say something to that effect in the log files (running as a PAE/Daemon). If you are not sure, post the first page of your logs, and someone here will tell you. FAQ's HOW TO: - Opt out of Beta Tests - Ask for Help |

Hi Retvari, Thanks for the tip. I did an uninstall and reinstall. The default install options have the "Install as a service and run under a..." de-selectable and deselected. Still get the same message. I don't know that this should matter but I am only accessing the machine in question via RDP. skgiven, Please point me to the correct log files. Do you mean boinc-specific or windows logs? Ken |

When you access your machine through RDP, Windows cuts the connection between the user interface (graphics, audio, keyboard, mouse etc) hardware, and the user's desktop (including all applications run by the user). So you have to use other remote connection software (VNC, TeamViewer, LogMeIn etc) to access your host remotely. |

Using logmein generates the same message from gpugrid. Boinc itself appears to recognize the gpu: "GPU's have become usable, enabling tasks". |

I'm using RealVNC. First, you should log in from the console. The applications won't have access to the GPU (and other hardware) until you log in form the console. |

You should restart the BOINC client, and exit from the scientific applications when stopping BOINC. |

Thanks to both. After a reboot etc...etc...using logmein...task from gpugrid is running. Happy to be a new, contributing, "bot". Ken Florian |
