From the CUDA download site. You need to download the CUDA SDK for your OS, install it and then run deviceQuery.exe from the CMD, which you can find in C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA CUDA SDK\bin\win64\Release\

You need to have CUDA Drivers (and perhaps the CUDA Toolkit) installed to!

Is this with the deviceQuery.exe provided by GDF, or with the 64bit deviceQuery.exe from the CUDA SDK?

Is it just as simple as reinstalling Boinc 6.3.10 !?!?

Or are some other steps needed? Perhaps changing the account on which boinc runs, or something else?

PS.. did he install the 64 bit version or the 32bit version of boinc?

I think I have found the problem with BOINC and GPU computing.

When boinc runs secured as boinc_master it is not able to see the GPU (Privilege problem), I just stopped the service and started boinc.exe manually as an administrator and am getting the right messages:

28-Aug-2008 20:30:09 [---] CUDA devices found
28-Aug-2008 20:30:09 [---] Coprocessor: GeForce 8600 GT (1)

So it seems to be a Vista privilege problem rather than a bug in the applications.

Exactly, reinstalling without service, nothing more

Of course, boinc x64 6.3.10 :D

Does the application run then if you start it manually?

Boinc is now processing a task, I am not sure if the task works correctly but it doesn't stop after 1 sec with an error. Only problem I have is that the task is using a lot of CPU, so there might still be a problem somehow!????

Haven't got the feeling the GPU is used, as I am not seeing much temperature increase, as I do see with Folding@Home.

EDIT: It also slows down my computer very much, due to this CPU usage,

Temperature of the GPU is slowly climbing up.

I Guess there is still much work left to build a nice GPU application.

EDIT2:
I think I stop the application as it slows down my machine to much to be able to use it, hope this can be made better in the future. At least we found the problem of not be able to use the GPU with the service, now we need a fix!?

There are still things which are odd, like the 32 bit deviceQuery issues.

So after reading all the posts, i don't need to post the result of deviceQuery!

But,on Vista 32 and 64, BOINC and deviceQuery saw only one card!

And if i install Boinc without the "secure" option, Boinc show me

CUDA devices found
Coprocessor : GeForce GTX 280 (1)

I can start with the service.
So it's rally a problem with the secure option introduce with the 6.x version!

Jim PROFIT

EDIT : without the secure mode, BOINC is not starting as a service!
I will try to find a way to do this!

It seems to work correctly here.

Only issues I have is that my computer gets really unresponsive due to a lot of CPU usage by the application. If I stop boinc and the application and run Folding@Home I don't have this issue so I guess a lot has to be done before this is usefull.

I aborted the application as it will take to much time (8 hours) and I need my computer for other things.

I guess the whole problem has to with BOINC running as a service. I might also be related to the secure option. At least we are able to run applications when we don't use the secure service mode.

I try to install it as a service and change to "Local System" and my account, but this is the same issue.

So right now, we can't install it as a service.
Maybe this is an issue with the security on the folders and files.
Right now i don't have the time to test it, maybe tomorrow evening.
