Pain part is interesting to me. I have been looking for a project where pain, nerve regeneration or pain medication is crunched. Any more coming in or new line of work for pain,nerve generation or meds???

Basicly because i'm in pain 24/7/365. My pain is caused by nerves, mostly because two intervertebral disks are pushing against spinal cord(one is the lowes disk and one below lowes rib(this should give everyone idea where)) and i have intervertebral disk deneration all over my back and those are the cause for pain also.vertebral bodys show sharpening in the edges as well. Surgeon told me nothing can be done, because if they fix one i got tons of problems more to fix and most of them are like 50/50 getting pain go away even if operations were to succeed. 6 or more operations with those odds :( Not getting two figures % odds for pain going away. Basicly i need big doze of tramadol daily to get out of bed or even sleep at all. 300mg tramadol a day and 4 other meds dealing with pain :/ So some project working towards better life would be appreciated (talking about something close to my needs).

Thanks. I have been noticing that and trying to figure out what, if anything, we can do. I am still trying to determine causes.

LTDAkiles, First I'd like to say I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. I look forward to the day when we have real, permanent solutions to a lot of our medical problems such as yours.

We are not specifically focused on pain at the moment, but the simulations I am doing are in fact relevant to new and alternative means of pain management, specifically through the endocannabinoid system. In contrast to traditional analgesics such as opiates (like tramadol) or NSAIDs (acetominophen, ibuprophen, etc.), these alternatives can hopefully give a different method to manage certain types of pain, or at the very least be supplementary to others. In fact, there has been a recent report by the CMCR at UCSD that suggests medications that target this system are effective at treating pain that results from central nervous system issues such as spinal injuries and multiple sclerosis. Depending on what we find through our research, the results could be important for these kinds of treatment.

Thank you Nate. Your project is only project i know focusing something really close to my issues. I know what nerve pain can be, trust me it will eat one alive. It have been like this for years now. I'm not waiting help for me from projects, but speeding things a bit for others and try to do my part that my kids won't be in the same position as i m now.

Thank you and keep up the good work. Good to hear back from project scientist what is going on and under works. More communication with crunchers will aid project alot. I have seems good projects die, because of lack of communication from project staff to crunchers.

This does not help me. I am looking research to develop medicines for kidney diseases. But maybe I will come back to this project in one day. Sooner or later.

Thanks. Now i have broblem. The article says that

1:"it was too early for any firm conclusions."

I do not have diabetes.

But maybe the article has something useful later in my life.
