I'm running an Asus overclocked GTX 460 on my Dell Studio XPS 435 (not MT; the big black and red one, i7). Big WUs turnaround in about 16.5 hours with no problems.

Since the 460 cannot use all it's 336 shaders for GPUGRID I'm thinking about upgrading to an Asus GTX 470 which, I think (?), can use all of its 448 shaders for GPUGRID.

The 460 needs 450 system watts. My Dell XPS 435 has 475 watts. Again, no problem. But Nvidia.com tells me the 470 needs 550 watts, so a PSU upgrade is on the cards...

Question: if I upgrade the PSU to support the 470, how much of a GPUGRID performance improvement can I expect (assuming I can overclock the Asus 470 too...)?

A subsidiary question: I'm 75 watts short of the 470 requirement. Does it really matter?

Thanks, Tom

The 75W does matter; my guess is that if you try to use your existing PSU, you could blow it within a few weeks. A new PSU could also be more energy efficient, so probably worth getting anyway.

Ball park figures, a GTX470 should get around twice the credit of a GTX460.

Thank you! Looks like a new PSU...

I'm running both (EVGA) and I would peg it at about a 30% increase.
