Hello all, My name is Nathaniel Stanley and I'm a new member here on the GPUGRID team. You will start seeing some of my work units coming through, so I thought it a good time to introduce myself. I have a BS in biochemistry from New York University, and I am pursuing my post-graduate education here at UPF. While at NYU, I studied conformational kinetics of biomolecules using time-averaged and single photon counting fluorescence spectroscopy. After university, but before deciding to continue my education here, I worked for several years in a startup company researching and manufacturing high-efficiency, cost-efficient solar cell technology (which I am proud to say continues successfully today). However, while I enjoyed my time within that industry, my long-term desire to help better understand the complex biomolecular machinery of cells has brought me back. As I mentioned, you will start to see some of my work units feed through. I am currently researching a membrane protein that is an integral part of one of the lesser-studied neurochemical systems. It is important for mood, pain sensation, and memory, so every step towards a better understanding might lead to alternate--and hopefully more successful--medicines for pain-management and depression than currently exist. It is a complex system and has taken a lot of work to prepare, but we are already seeing some interesting things locally. Thanks to your crunching we will be able to really say something concrete about it in not too much time. I look forward to working with you guys. Happy crunching.
