Greetings all, I haven't been running GPUGrid for awhile, but am considering putting a new GPU in this host (which is now running Win7-64) and getting back in the game. Although it is a bit more than I'd like to spend, the GTX 570 seems to get high praise in the forums here as far as bang-for-the-buck/euro. There's one card that I might be able to talk myself into, but I don't know if my PSU is up to it: Candidate card: EVGA GTX 570 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 Existing PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W Modular The concern for me is that the card spec recommends a "...minimum 550W or greater system power supply (with a minimum 12V current rating of 38A.) " Does that mean 38A on each rail? Is that likely a conservative rating? If it should get 38A on each rail, then my PSU might not be up to the task...The label on the PSU shows the 12 volt rails rated at 25A each. Thanks for your consideration and any advice or suggestions for alternatives you might have. Cheers, MarkR |

If you are replacing your GTX260 with a GTX570 then you should have nothing to worry about. If you want to Add the GTX570 then its a bit tighter, but should work; I'm running 2 GTX470's on an i7-920 with an 850W Corsair, but its using well below 700W (and bought so I could use 3 Fermi's if I want to). You might want to enter your spec into a PSU Calculator, which will give you the minimum recommended PSU by Watts: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/Power I don't see such a PSU Calculator by OCZ, but they might have one somewhere. My concern would be that you might have to use molex to PCIE power connectors with that PSU (if you want 2 PSU's). Don't use those on the GTX570! Obviously if you overclock, you will have to factor that in. |

If you are replacing your GTX260 with a GTX570 then you should have nothing to worry about... Oh, yes, I should have been more clear: I am looking to replace the GTX 260, not add a second GPU. Even if I wanted to, the mobo in this host has only one PCIe slot. You might want to enter your spec into a PSU Calculator, which will give you the minimum recommended PSU by Watts...I don't see such a PSU Calculator by OCZ, but they might have one somewhere. Thanks for suggesting this...Lucky for me, OCZ does have a Power Supply Selector chart (no calculator that I could find, either). According to the chart, my PSU should be able to handle replacing the 260 with a 570. Thanks for all the info. It looks like I'll be okay with a 570. MarkR |

Greetings all, I prefer the Palit OC'ed cards. They have a better cooling solution. I have one evga reference design 570 and you have crank the fan up to prevent it overheating BOINC blog |
