Whatever happened to the option to mark all threads as read?

Now and again when I open a message board I see threads that I have already looked at appear as being unread; old threads, usually 30 or more days old.

I don't know why this happens, but the would be fix is not there either. I guess a server update (perhaps a year or so ago) took the option away.
