Hey peoples. I seem to have the issue where I log into my computers remotely and it causes my GPUGRID tasks to error. Any ideas, suggestions?

I remember similar reports related with the logmein software. VNC may be less invasive. |

Seriously, no thoughts/solutions? I figured some of you would have figured out the issue and a workaround. Please help me out as I usually only access this computer via Remote and don't like killing my GPU tasks.

There are old posts about this, but basically the standard remote desktop connection will kill tasks because rdp forces the system to use Microsoft's default display drivers and unloads the NVidia drivers for the session. Try VNC Free Edition, but there are several others that could work too. |

Alright, I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Perhaps teamviewer app will help you on this (I really don;t know if it uses both Internet and intranet though). |

Teamviewer usually requires 2 people, i.e. the controlled PC has to confirm that it wants to be controlled, so this wouldn't work. But as SK said various VNC implementations work. They'll be slower and produce more lag, as they have to send the entire screen image instead of the rendering commands. but this different method enables them to be used together with crunching GPUs. And another thought: do you use a current BOINC? I know mine says "GPUs have become unusable" if I connect via RDP. But 'im not crunching on that GPU anyway, so I don't know if this would still kill the GPU tasks or merely put them on hold. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

I only use local GPUs so this is not a problem for me but does anyone know of a way to setup an exclusion? <exclusive_app>remote desktop process</exclusive_app> I don't recall reading that recent versions of boinc automatically suspend tasks when starting a remote session, so I would not bank on it working for 6.10.58/60. Might have missed something in recent Beta work though. |

I only use local GPUs so this is not a problem for me but does anyone know of a way to setup an exclusion? I use VNC to access several PCs with crunching GRAKAs. (BM 6.10.58 and 6.11.x) I never had problems with "automatically suspended tasks". |

Yeah, you wouldn't see this GPUs have become unusable message using VNC, because.. well, they didn't. @SK: I don't know what BOINC does once it detected that the GPUs became unusable. It surely doesn't try to start new GPU tasks, but I have no idea whether it can save the currently running ones. I don't know if this is even possible at the BOINC level. And what do you mean by exclusion? To watch for some *.exe which is launched upon RDP connections and to define this as exclusive gpu app? MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

And what do you mean by exclusion? To watch for some *.exe which is launched upon RDP connections and to define this as exclusive gpu app? Yes, exactly that. I guess LAIM would need to be off to have any chance, but I don't know what the .exe file would need to be, or even if it needs to be an executable file. The only executable I can think of is mstsc.exe, but that's always running; listening to a port for an incoming connection or sitting ready to initiate an outgoing connection, so that one would not work. Anyway, it's not an issue if you are happy with VNC. |
