Despite being OC'd to the hilt I'm only getting twice the speed of my "old" GT240's anyone know why. I must admit I was expecting more. Radio Caroline, the world's most famous offshore pirate radio station. Great music since April 1964. Support Radio Caroline Team - Radio Caroline |

Basically only 2/3 of the shaders are usable on GTX460s, the GTS450 and other cards with the same architecture, with the current ACEMD based apps. I have no idea if this can ever be fixed, but I suspect it will not be available until a new ACEMD release, if at all. The top end cards (GTX580, 570, 480, 470 and 465) do not suffer from this architecture problem. It only impacts on GPUGrid, not other projects, because only GPUGrid uses the ACEMD program, required for molecular dynamics research. I think there was too much hope for these cards, including the GTX560 (same architectural flaws). The only benefit over a GTX260-216 is that it uses less electric. |

Thanks SK wish I'd known that before. It's one thing after another today. If disappointment were a star sign I would have been born under it. Radio Caroline, the world's most famous offshore pirate radio station. Great music since April 1964. Support Radio Caroline Team - Radio Caroline |

I'm disapporinted in their performance but they were free :) They do run cooler and use less electrons than the other GTX2xx's. Cheers.

En: On Linux you can increase the nice value. On Win you can use a tool called efmer priority to increase priority to increase a task's priority. However, if you free up a CPU core and use swan_sync=0 it does the same thing. The programmers are making some changes. We will have to wait and see what effects these have. Begs the question as to why the 460 and 560 are 'recommended' on the home page? It does. The way I see it is that if the card is as good as a GTX260 in terms of performance or a GTX275 in terms of performance per Watt, then it's still a good card. You can't recommend a GTX275 and not a GTX460. A GTX560 should be about 40% faster than a GTX460, so slightly different situation. It's just that the GTX580, GTX570, GTX480, GTX470 and GTX465 are substantially better than the GTX460 in terms of speed here. I think the categories need to better reflect the situation. Perhaps when the project/task changes are made a rethink will see Highly Recommended, Recommended, Useable, and Not Recommended. |

i'm still hoping for the new app that is scheduled for mid february, which should improve performance and usage :) |

Hi SK are you sure about 580,480 etc. that they don't have this problem? i've searched on google: gtx 480 "low gpu usage" 44,800 results and gtx 460 "low gpu usage" 52,400 results this to me means that people are having the same problem on gtx 480 as I have on the gtx 460. |

Yes, quite sure. There are other GPU problems too. One common GPU problem is downclocking; the GPU reduces it's frequency. This can be seen on many Fermi cards CC2.0 and CC2.1. |

my card: gainward gtx 460 768MB i have another problem :) i now have 90% constant gpu usage on a task but it causes severe freeze on my computer and i am forced to suspend it. this is a picture of the gpu task: http://oi56.tinypic.com/8zlj5d.jpg advices? |

i have another problem :) There's been some talk about it in this thread http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=2545 You could try to manually adjust the priority of the task or turn off swan_sync. Not sure if that works though because I don't have that problem. |

Use this tool to change the priority of acemdlong_6.14_windows_intelx86__cuda31 to "normal", or "below normal". You should put a shortcut of this tool to the start menu's startup folder to make it run at every system start. |

It's been a long time since I've checked in and it seems the 2/3 usage problem is unresolved. As you say all other projects are unaffected. Since all my NVidias are GTX 460 it looks like I'm still out of GPUGRID. Won't run GPUs with only 2/3 of the shaders used. Good luck to you all and happy crunching! |
