Hello I have been trying for hours to alter the domain name/computer name to something other than... I finally installed YDL v6 :) localhost.localdomain when i open up the terminal and type in : hostname It comes up as: PS3A - this is what i want So why does it still show as - localhost.localdomain when i look up the computers on my account. Pleas if possible give me step by step instructions. Kind Regards, John

Further to the above problem... During setup/installation i used the name : PS3A When you open network connections i typed it in everywhere i could. I even altered the: client_state xml file and in between the tags i altered localhost.localdomain to PS3A - save and done a reboot but the changes i made reverted back to what they used to be. This is ridiculous - :) Regards, John

I found the same with version 5. It makes it impossible to access Boinc through the network. |

Don\'t know why you see localhost.localdomain in the hosts list - With YDL 6 I see PS3-1, PS3-2... in my host list here at PS3GRID. With YDL 5 I also had only localhost.localdomain entries, but this has never made problems... I have never changed anything than the hostname during the installation and this worked well for me... I\'ll have a look if I can find something to change your hostname... @ Alex Plantema - you can access the BOINC client on the PS3 in your network also via the IP address, not only with the hostname... ;) pixelicious.at - my little photoblog |

I\'ve tried that, but it doesn\'t work either. I can manage other computers from the PS3, but not the reverse, it only responds to the ping command. Changing the hostname doesn\'t work, and after a reboot the change isn\'t preserved. |

Further to the above problem... I don\'t know exactly about your problem. It should not be necessary to make any changes, boinc reports the \'hostname\' value to the server. Did you shut down and running instances of boinc manager and core client before altering client_state.xml. These are wrritten too by what boinc has in memory when you exit boinc. If you did not exit, made modifications and then shutdown, boinc would write to these overwriting your changes with what it has in memory. After you make lcoal changes it may be necessary to \'update\' project so the PS3 syncs with the website too see these changes, it does not happen instanlty without manual intervention. |
