I picked up a couple of very hungry KASHIF_HIVPR tasks recently: 14-KASHIF_HIVPR_n1_bound_cl_ba1-0-100-RND5293_0 2897095 1849403 30 Aug 2010 17:18:56 UTC 31 Aug 2010 5:25:46 UTC Completed and validated 11,480.22 11,399.69 6,016.70 9,025.06 ACEMD2: GPU molecular dynamics v6.11 (cuda31) 154-KASHIF_HIVPR_n1_unbound_so_ba1-0-100-RND3348_1 On my GTX470 the GPU was at 96% My Fermi is running at stock frequencies in an old AMD 5200+ system, until the weekend. If I just ran these tasks at reference speeds I could get a daily RAC of 68K to 70K. I am seeing similar results for these tasks on my GT240's and my GTX260 is averaging 92% GPU usage for a KASHIF_HIVPR_wobind Excellent work. |

What is "normal" gpu utilization? I just installed a gtx470 2 days ago, on an i7-920 Win7-64 system, and I'm seeing utilization in the mid 40%'s-60%'s (as per evga precision), averaging about 35k ppd. Sound about right? |

That is about right for a GTX470 that has not been optimized and runs on Win7. There are several things you can do to optimize to crunch with your GPU: Use Win XP or Linux – these are faster than Vista and Win7 (about 10 to 15% even if you have win7 optimized, about 40% if you don’t). You should leave at least one CPU core free; Configure Boinc to only use 7 cores, that way one is free to facilitate the GPU. Use swan_sync=0 You might also want to overclock, but if you do increase the fan speed. In fact even if you don’t overclock, increase the fan speed. You can use several tools to do that. I generally use EVGA Precision as it is very easy to use. |
